Hiya,

I'm just chucking this out there for discussion.  I'm neither a Christian nor proficient in SEO practices, so I might be missing the point. :p

I've noticed that, in the religion section, sub-categories relating to Christianity are split into several categories.  In comparison, Wicca, Pagan and Druid is one category.

I'm not whinging about the latter.  It's fair enough, as far as I'm concerned.  But I wonder if you're spreading the Christian ones too thin.

A friend of mine has just posted a Christian article:  Scripture Memory Made Simple  After checking it out, I suddenly noticed that two of my witch-y articles are in the 'You Might Also Like' section.

Well, naturally, I think that everyone in the world will like them!  I wrote them!   But might your average Bible Study readers be slightly more interested in the contents of, say, the Catholicism or the Christianity sub-categories?

This is likely to be a temporary situation, as the Christians write as much on their religion, as I am on mine, then the 'You Might Also Like' will fill up accordingly.  But that also relies upon all of the other religions having representatives doing the same.

I've checked.  Catholicism is also recommending Wicca, Pagan, Druid articles, as is Hinduism, New Age, Religious Activities, Religious Services, Scientology and Shintoism.  In fact, any religious category with less than four articles in it will recommend my witch-y ones as further reading.

Fantastic for me!  But I'm not sure it's so great for the readers.

My suggestion would be to put the Christian ones together in a single sub-category to start with.  If you're following the formula with my lot, that would be:  Protestantism, Christianity, Catholicism.  It wouldn't spread the articles so thinly and it would be all Christian recommendations.

What do you think?

yours

Jo

As you said - it may balance out once the Christians write more (and better) articles. I've rejected quite a few, so far, mainly because of their preachy content with a whole lot of duplicate text to boot (Bible verses).

You heathens are far more interesting, in that regard.  Surprised

Personally, I think it'll do us Christians mighty good, to broaden our horizons and learn more about Jesus's statement: "My father's house has many mansions."

 Surely you mean 'gobby'.  :p

Ok, so this should turn into a call to everyone of a religious inclination then - write at least four articles in your categories!  Or the world gets to know about Wicca. *eldritch cackle*

Go!  Go!  Go!

PS  I'm glad that you haven't separated out Wicca and Paganism, as I'd have to spend twice the time filling the Pagan category too.  As for the poor Druids, they're being swamped by not being here.  I'd have to go and drag some of them (and, since you've mentioned them, some Heathens) off the streets.

PPS  Just to pre-empt any questions, here are some definitions:

Paganism:  Umbrella term for any religion which isn't in the Abrahamic line (Judaism, Islam, Christian etc.)

Wicca:  A Pagan religion often associated with witchcraft.

Druid:  A Pagan religion with Celtic roots, absolutely not associated with witchcraft (unless we're getting very academic about it).

Heathen:  A Pagan religion with Norse/Germanic roots.  (Note the capital 'H'.  With a lower case 'h', as Chef Keem used it, heathen is pretty much another word for Pagan. ;)  )

I trust you could read between the lines of my previous post, dear Jo. I'm not trying to put anyone down because of their religious beliefs, not even my own fellow Catholics.

In fact, after Bible study and and altar boy adventures during my childhood and youth, and after a serious alcoholic "bottom" with spiritual awakening and years of recovery, I'd rather consider myself a "12-stepper", or a "recovering Catholic".

But who cares about labels, really. If I were born further east, I might be a Muslim. If I were born in your neck of the woods, I might be a Druid. If I were born in the back woods of West Virginia, I might be a redneck.

Labels don't count, only what's inside our hearts and minds. Right?

To add to Jo's definitions:

'gobby' - a British English colloquial term (thought it was mainly "Estuarine" English of the Chavs [? I am open to being put right on this conception]) for someone who is not averse to speaking their mind (oft times in public) without being too concerned about who hears (or may take offence at) what that person has to say.

To define the terms in the above:

"Estuarine" - east of London, mainly on the north bank of the Thames (south Essex, partially north Kent).

"Chavs" - those that dress 'designer' (but may be knock-off's), but don't talk 'refiner'. They have the notion that they are better than you, and better than they actually are. Nothing wrong with that - just another 'label' as Chef iterated.

To define the term in the term definitions:

"Knock-off's" - it looks designer. It says it is designer on the tag. It ain't designer 'cos it arrived on a boat from south or east Asia without passing thru' Customs.

=======

I'm glad that Wizzley (Chef) is only letting quality religion (and other categories, of course) through his net - I would hate Wizzley to degenerate into the 'Religious Wars' that flourish over on another site.

Chef -  Sorry!  I was giggling there!  I then promptly went to bed because it was heading towards 3am.  I should have been more clear on that.  <3

So you're a Catholic, eh?   You realise that Wizzley only has two Catholic articles and one was written by a witch!  (And {{{hugs}}}} on the fact that your spiritual journey appears to have had some bumps in it.)

I'm totally with you on the whole subject of labels.

Chaz - You crack me up.

To define this term:

"Crack me up" - Cause one to laugh profusely with mirth.

Additional thought:

'gobby' - think Vicky Pollard from 'Little Britain' (UK version)

Jo - if you want another subject for articles for your US clients perhaps a series on Little Britain (which has a US following) could be placed on your todo list - I know you would do a good job on this, and there are vids to sell from Amazon.

Back to the original query:

'spreading the Christian ones too thin' - is this a reference to crucifixion, for which you are going to post an article in your 'means of execution' series?
If left up there too long they obviously did get spread thin.

We seem not to have attracted erudite Christian writers here yet. Perhaps as time goes by, and they are banned from other sites not to be mentioned, they will turn up here to enlighten us. I just can't wait!

I agree with Chef - keep schtum (if that is how it's spelt - spell-check offered 'scrotum' as the alternative spelling - don't think you want to keep that!) and accept the additional links to your offerings, with grace.

Definition:

Keep schtum - keep quiet about it - don't let the cat out of the bag (perhaps 'scrotum' does fit in there somewhere, after all) Surprised

Chaz - Perhaps an article on gallows humour first to contextualise it all!  LOL

I'd love to write about Little Britain, but I've never watched it.  I'll bat that one back over to you then.  Mind you, such considerations haven't stopped me writing about a CBS show this morning. It's not even premiering until September this year!

On the subject of erudite Christian writers, we might have our saviour already.  JSheaForrest is in the building and she's already contributed one to Bible Study.  Which is how I knew about the issue in the first place.

As for others, I'm sure that there are some very accomplished writers and Christians already firmly established on Wizzley.   *looks over towards certain individuals*  You know who you are.

In the meanwhile, I will certainly revel in the monopoly of Paganism!  That's been 2000 years in the waiting!

No time for Little Britain. I am focusing on a bigger picture.

Perhaps someone else would like to take the LB project on. Unless of course Jo has second thoughts on the subject.

Perhaps "Christian ideological influences on the Little Britain phenomenon" - I've checked the keywords and they seem good?!

Oh, and by the way, I won't be hanging around for the Gallows Humour article.

Never fear, I have a whole slew of articles waiting to appear! :D With topics ranging from, "Choosing the Best Bible Translation" to "Christian Books For Teens" to a series on Bible Basics (focused mainly on elaborating on Hank Hannegraff's DOCTRINES acronym: http://www.equip.org/bible_answers/what-is-essential-christian-doctrine/   but far more in-depth.) within a week or two there'll be so many Christian articles you'll have to work harder to keep up, Jo ;)

*groans at Chaz's pun*  Not even if the article has an old spark(y) of inspiration?   Well, better than that effort anyway.  :p

J - Result!  Christianity is covered.  Now to see your reaction when you realise just how many individual Christian-related sub-categories there are.   Meanwhile I'm sitting pretty with my amalgamated Wicca, Pagan, Druid.   Good luck there!

Of course, what we really need now are Wizzley's Jews, Muslims and other spiritual people to look to their categories.

JShea - just a word of caution: Bible quotes are considered "duplicate content". If you feature too many of them within your articles, we cannot accept them. Also, we reject articles that read like a sermon.

Welcome to Wizzley!  Smile

Hey - what about us pure out-and-out atheists Innocent?

There's not a Higg's Boson difference between all your religions. You guys all just come from the same premise Undecided.

It is us atheists that have the real contrary view Foot in mouth.

But everyone to their own understanding Sealed!

As I said above, this would be a worse place to be (Wizzley) if it goes down the HP route in the Religion and Politics forums. Please [insert your deity here] we don't end up with pedants writing and verbalizing about myopic minutiae of the praeternatural Frown.

That reminds me, where is my HB (Higgs Boson) pencil Wink? (Do you guys in the US differentiate your pencils in the same way as we do in the UK - B3, B2, B, HB, H, H2, H3 etc. - if you don't I've just cracked a joke that very few will understand - but then that is nothing new Cry).

Thank you, ChefKeem kind sir, for the welcome and advice! Do you think in future (obviously I needed to actually have the content of the verses in order to demonstrate the methods of memorizing them) that giving the verse reference and linking it to a site with the full text, would be acceptable?

Sure, links to useful resources are acceptable.  Smile

Now go forth and fill out your profile info (with picture). It'll add a lot more credibility to your content.

You guys are just too funny. What about us poor souls who can't find a religion? I'm to nervous to be an atheist. I've tried Christian, I've tried Wicca. The Native American beliefs probably speak to me the best, but they won't let me in. Buddhism is the closest I come to a belief but I'm too distracted to meditate...Sealed Who's gonna write some comparisons for us?

I've spent the last hour trying to get my phone to take a nice picture of me. Time I could have spent writing. Or eating my cereal, which has now gone all soggy and inedible.

And of course, now that I write this, I finally manage to take a decent picture. :P Third(hundredth) time's the charm!

Hey - what about us pure out-and-out atheists Innocent?

You get your own 'hood, miles up the alphabet from us lot in Religion.  You get to hang out with the Agnostics; and there are five articles already.

In short, you can't play in OUR category and you're not advertising anything that I've written.  I feel that the latter is a minus point.  LOL
