I wouldn't even limit this advice to non-published members. Some authors may mean this as encouragement, but really, why would you want to demonstrate publicly that you are a fan of a drive-by link-dropper? Doesn't that make you guilty by association?

I did click a few people I was a fan of but it was people i know from other sites. 

 

By the way I did get my first article up. On Things to do with kids for free

Totally agreed on this.  You should fan people because you genuinely like their work and want to follow it.   After all, fanning someone does not give them or you any points or privileges.

Yep I hate the people who fan people just because they can. I only fan people if I like their work and want to read more.
