Garden Storage Benches

Wooden storage benches make a nice addition to the garden or a patio. They are not only great to look at and use, but add some more storage for items such as garden tools and accessories.

If you should buy a wooden storage bench that isn't already finished, you should add a coat of sealant so it will last longer. Clean the wood first with soap and water and let it dry before adding the sealant. You can also stain the bench if you would rather. Make sure it is a waterproof stain and be aware that you will need to reapply the stain once a year.

If you have a hardwood bench such as teak, use a teak oil to preserve the wood. Again this should be applied at least once a year.

If your bench sits outside in the elements, you will want to clean it at least once a week with a little soapy water and a cloth. Rinse and let it dry completely.

Finally, make sure to clean up and spills immediately. Some spills can damage the wood if you don't do this and then you will have to refinish the entire bench again!
