The simple ingredient found in most homes make for great hair mask that both moisturize and nourish the hair.

Let’s talk about hair oh the wonderful marvelous hair and the beauty it can possess.

Warning your hair will look and smell so amazing people will sniff it and try to touch it when you not looking. Speaking from experience :)

As my Grandfather always said, A women’s hair is her glory. It’s no secret we all love a gorgeous head of hair!

We girls tend to have a love hate relationship with our hair. The natural recipes you're about to learn are easy, extremely affordable, and in fact, I don’t like to say this but cheap compared to the over priced chemical products.

My recipes actually nourish hair with real and natural foods after soaking into your hair make it feel great. Anytime you have one of those bad hair days it’s time for a little in home spa love! How long has it been since you enjoyed beautiful bouncy hair?

I convert my hairdryer into a hair-drying system adding heat to my treatments.

Homemade Ingredients for Hair Mask

The in home banana moisturizing treatment is hands down the best most favorite of them all.

  1. One ripe banana (or two if your hair is long and thick)
  2. I egg yolk
  3. 1 Tbsp honey
  4. 2 Tbsp olive oil (don’t add this if you have oily hair)

Mix and mash all the ingredients in a bowl, you may use a mixer if you like. Make sure to use ripe banana’s because if not they remain lumpy and get stuck in your hair. But don’t let that stop you this is MY Favorite Hair Treatment, and I lay odds it will be yours too after you use it. Apply this magical mask as directed above.

Note: Use banana's that are turning black, those you would not eat due to being over ripe. The kind of banana's you would use to make banana bread. You may freeze any over ripe bananas you have for this purpose. Simply remove from the freezer and use.

Pre-tuning the Hair - Applying Hair Mask;

Always apply any hair mask to wet hair. Massage the mask into your hair and down to the ends. Cover hair with a shower cap for a minimum of 10 – 15 minutes.  I leave it on my hair as long as I can, because you can’t get too much of a good thing when you have overly curly dry hair like I do. You may also add heat by wrapping your head in a warm towel just out of the dryer. I often go outside during the summer months to enjoy a bit of gardening or relax in the sun while I write.

Oily and Normal Banana Hair Mask

All natural mask are easy, cost effective and very good for your hair.

Rinsing the Banana Treatment

For Oily to Normal Hair;

Prepping Hair - Rinse your hair in warm water, shampoo and rinsing thoroughly.

For Dry Hair;

This would be me, Rinse (I do not shampoo) your hair thoroughly in warm water to start and end by cooling the water down to close the hair shaft and seal in the benefits of this treatment. I love this so much it makes my curly, dry and red hair bouncy and shine with a wonderful aroma that smells great! This treatment is my feel good cure to anything!

DerdriuMarriner, You can use avocados bananas however are delightful and smell great but guess this is the very thing I imagine you hope to avoid.

katiem2, Thank you for all the descriptions and product lines. The hair-drying system looks completely do-able, as does the mask ... except that I'm wondering: Is there something that can be substituted for bananas?

katiem2 on 07/22/2013

WriterArtist, I agree we don't need to turn to chemicals for any reason when nature offers everything we need.

Jo, Dreadlocks tend to get dry and therefore are a great candidate for a moisturizing banana treatment. JUST be certain to use very ripe banana's blending it smooth. Your dreads will look and feel amazing. :)

Jill, My homemade banana hair treatment is wonderful. Glad you gave it a go. :)

This sounds gorgeous! I've got dreadlocks. I'm assuming it would be good for my hair too, which does tend towards dry.
