Homemade Ingredients for Hair Mask

The in home banana moisturizing treatment is hands down the best most favorite of them all.

YOU WILL NEED;

  1. One ripe banana (or two if your hair is long and thick)
  2. I egg yolk
  3. 1 Tbsp honey
  4. 2 Tbsp olive oil (don’t add this if you have oily hair)

Mix and mash all the ingredients in a bowl, you may use a mixer if you like.  Be careful to make certain you use ripe banana’s because if not they remain lumpy and get stuck in your hair. But don’t let that stop you, form a routine of using over ripe bananas whenever left with a few overly ripe.

Note: Use banana's that are turning black, those you would not eat or may otherwise use for bread, save your waist and pamper your hair.  Treat bananas you would use to make bread like you would those for your hair, freeze any over ripe bananas, simply remove from the freezer, thaw and use.

Apply this magical mask working it into and all over your hair/head, see full instructions below.

How to Apply Deep Conditioning Hair Mask

Pre-tuning the Hair - Applying Hair Mask

Always apply any hair mask to wet hair.

Massage the mask into your hair and down to the ends.

Cover hair with a shower cap for a minimum of 10 – 15 minutes.

I leave it on my hair as long as I can, because you can’t get too much of a good thing when you have overly curly dry hair like mine.

You may also add heat by wrapping your head in a warm towel just out of the dryer.

I often go outside during the summer months to enjoy a bit of gardening or relax in the sun while I write.

Prepping Hair - Rinse thoroughly in warm water.

For Dry Hair;

This would be me, Rinse hair thoroughly in luke warm to cool water to start and end by cooling the water to cold.  This closes the hair shaft sealing in the benefits of this treatment giving you bouncy, shiny hair.

DerdriuMarriner, You can use avocados bananas however are delightful and smell great but guess this is the very thing I imagine you hope to avoid.

katiem2, Thank you for all the descriptions and product lines. The hair-drying system looks completely do-able, as does the mask ... except that I'm wondering: Is there something that can be substituted for bananas?

katiem2 on 07/22/2013

WriterArtist, I agree we don't need to turn to chemicals for any reason when nature offers everything we need.

Jo, Dreadlocks tend to get dry and therefore are a great candidate for a moisturizing banana treatment. JUST be certain to use very ripe banana's blending it smooth. Your dreads will look and feel amazing. :)

Jill, My homemade banana hair treatment is wonderful. Glad you gave it a go. :)

This sounds gorgeous! I've got dreadlocks. I'm assuming it would be good for my hair too, which does tend towards dry.
