The Suntan Secrets of Your Dreams - How to Get the Perfect Tan

by katiem2

If you want a good ole setting beneath the actual sun tan there are some important things you should do to get the perfect tan. Follow along to learn the secrets of tanning.

There is something very healing about the sun, it feels good, energizes the soul and works magic on our sluggish ashen winter skin. The most vital step to achieving the best tan possible is skin prep. The worst thing anyone can do when starting a tan is to jump in with both feet not doing anything to prepare the skin for a great and lasting tan. The ultimate goal of any suntan is to be even, golden and last without peeling or flaking.

There’s nothing like the real thing in terms of tanning the sun is hands down the best way to get the most amazing and lasting tan ever. It is however not recommended that fair skin types tan yet instead protect themselves from the sun. If you have fair skin prone to burning the best tanning option for you is self-tanners or simply embrace and celebrate the fair skin you have. No one can pull off the beautiful porcelain look like a fair skinned red head or blonde.

The Science of Sun Tanning

The understanding of your skin and its life cycle helps you to practice the best tanning method.

Skin is constantly dying and renewing itself. This means while skin cells die off every day new skin cells replace them building a new fresh layer of skin. This makes for a very specific science to achieving and maintaining a perfect tan. While it seems a difficult science it really is not. It’s quite simple and a matter of setting a constant ritual which is something we humans do anyway.

How to Get a Great Tan

Using a good moisturizer everyday after exfoliating keeps skin in good tanning condition.

Developing a daily routine of proper skin maintenance and care sets the stage for a perfect continual tan. Once you exfoliate on a regular basis you keep the dead skin cells from forming a barrier on the surface and allow the sun to actually tan the new healthy skin. This continual process keeps you constantly tanning without dull dry skin getting in the way acting as a sluggish barrier.

The Best Way to Tan

The proper skin preparation is a must in terms of getting the best suntan possible for your skin type.

After a long winter the biggest problem preventing skin from tanning well is the buildup of dry dead skin. Optimally the savvy sun worshiper maintains subtle skin by exfoliating on a regular basis.  The number one reason for slow tanning results and or peeling is the remaining layer of dead skin that creates a barrier and eventually flakes and peels off. This causes uneven and blotchy tans as the dead skin peels away at different intervals.

The best and only way to enjoy a successful tanning season is to work weeks or months exfoliating to remove dead skin which is constantly occurring before you start tanning.

Develop a Tanning and Skincare Routine

Exfoliating should be a routine part of your skin care routine.Exfoliating the skin is sloughing off of dead skin cells naturally occurring on a constant basis in order to both prevent a barrier of dead skin to interfere with the sun tanning process and allow for new healthy skin to be properly tanned.

The Best Sun Tanning Tips

A good tanning routine must include both exfoliating and good skin care with daily moisturizer specific for tanning.

The best way to do this is while showering or bathing a few minutes after the entire body is wet. This makes the dead skin cells easier to remove.  A good moisturizing soap or body wash is best for this process. Lather up a loafa, sponge or better yet a exfoliating glove and body polish specific to tanning the skin. These products create enough friction to lift and remove dry skin leaving a glowing healthy layer of new skin.

DerdriuMarriner, I am a redhead and I avoid the sun, wear hats, shades and have no hopes or ideas of getting a suntan, this is why I created my homemade organic sunless tanning cream.

katiem2, Keep out of the sun if you freckle, have sensitive skin and tend to burn! Thanks for the tips on moisturizers, something that must not be forgotten, particularly when they're that wonderful citrus blossom brand.

These are great tips. I often exfoliate and then use just shower cream. Maybe I should use lotion too.
