How To Have A Tea Party

by Gardenbella

There are lots of reasons to have a tea party and you don't have to be a little girl to enjoy the pleasure of serving tea, small sandwiches and sweets!

There have been several occasions in my life (so far) where I have enjoyed attending a tea party. The first one was when I was ten years old and my teacher was getting married. My mother and a group of women put on a wedding shower for her and I can still remember how excited I was because I got to be a big girl that day!

The next occasion was my wedding. I had an afternoon tea complete with silver service, tea sandwiches and cakes. I had two of my childhood friend's mothers look after the tea service. It is a great idea for anyone wanting to have something different for their reception.

The other occasion was when I put on a tea party for all my women friends. They had to dress up in frocks (dresses) and hats. I served sherry when they arrived and had a fully laden table of sandwiches, little cakes and of course an assortment of tea. We had so much fun that I did it again a few years later. It was definitely a fun time and a great reason to get a group of girlfriends together!

Tea Sandwiches for Your Tea Party

You can't have a tea party without some tea sandwiches. These lovely little finger sandwiches look delicious and will make a festive touch to any tea party.

The sandwiches can be made the night before and they either wrapped in cling wrap or put in an airtight container and left in the refrigerator until you are ready to put them out on the plate.

One of my all-time favorite tea sandwiches has to be the Asparagus Rollup. I remember when I was in grade five and my teacher was getting married my mother and some other women put on a wedding shower for her. It was the first time I was ever at a tea party and all these years later I still remember what we had to eat that day. The first sandwich I had was the asparagus rollup. Here is the recipe:

Asparagus Rollups
1 can asparagus (drained)
Butter
Mayonnaise
Salt and pepper (to taste)
Square white bread
Remove the crusts from the bread and spread one side with butter and the other with mayonnaise. Place a spear diagonally across the bread and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Roll from corner to corner to make a tube and then cut the tube in half. Refrigerate for several hours and then enjoy!
