How to Make a Gift Bag in 5 Minutes

I know it sounds too good to be true, but you really can make a gift bag in 5 minutes

I'm pretty sure we've all been in a situation where we don't have the right size box for a gift and we're looking around at the last minute for some way to package the gift and still have it look pretty.

This project doesn't take any crafting talent, I should know because I have none, but I am the person in this video. This is a great rainy day project if you want to make several bags all at once to have them on hand when you need one. Make them in different sizes, colors and patterns and children can get involved too.

The materials are items that you probably have at home already.

Materials You'll Need

  • A box that is the size of the bag you want to make (the video will explain this)
  • Wrapping paper - enough to wrap the box
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • Glue stick
  • Corded rope, twine, ribbon, lace or anything you can use for handles (cut into two 12" pieces)
  • Piece of cardboard

Add Some Bling

My video shows you just the basics for making a bag, but you can do so much more to embellish and personalize your bags using rubber stamps or stencils, glitter, trinkets or photos glued to the bag. With a little imagination and creativity, each bag could be a work of art.  Here are just a few ideas for you to get started making gift bags...for fun or profit.

Make it a Business

Earn Money From Your Craft

You could turn your bag making craft into a business when friends see how creative you can be by personalizing gift bags. Bridal shower and baby shower favors in specific colors with names and a design theme could be a great start for a gift bag business. Other ideas for a business:

  • Weddings
  • Christmas
  • Halloween
  • Anniversaries

.....and the list goes on!

You'll not only save a lot of money by making your own gift bags, but if you turn it into a business you can make money doing something you enjoy!  The praise and appreciation from friends is nice too!

Yes Ruth, wallpaper would make a much stronger bag. The possibilities are endless with a little imagination.

Terrific way to utilize wallpaper for DIY gift bags! I enjoyed the step-by-step video, and yes, about half way through I saw the cat's tail fly by!

This is a great idea but unfortunately wrapping paper seems to tear very easily (compared to plan white wrapping paper), at least in my experience. I hope Zazzle sells good-quality wrapping paper. Their stuff tends to be of great quality.
