How Your Subconscious Mind Works And How You Can Program It

Some techniques on how to utilize the power of your subconscious mind.

When trying to accomplish goals in your life it is important to understand how the subconscious mind works. If you don't know how the subconscious works then you will never achieve your desires in any area of your life.

How Your Subconscious Mind Works

Your subconscious mind is like a sponge.  It takes information from your conscious mind and stores it for later use.  When your conscious mind needs that stored information it sends the request to the subconscious mind and the subconscious mind searches for it in its stored memory.  When the subconscious mind finds the “data” it sends that information to the conscious mind so that it can use it.  This process it similar to how a computer works.  But the mind is way more powerful than any super computer on the planet.

You can also compare the subconscious mind to a small infant.  In this example, picture the infant as the subconscious mind and the infant’s parents as the conscious mind.  An infant has no reference to anything other than its parent’s suggestions and their thoughts.  The subconscious mind works in the same way because the subconscious mind doesn't think for itself and the only thing that it can do is to store the information that it takes in from the thoughts and opinions of the conscious mind.

The subconscious mind doesn't question anything that the conscious mind tells it; it takes everything as a matter of fact. So if you say things that you don’t really mean, your subconscious mind doesn't know that you are only joking or being sarcastic, it only stores that information as if it were what you really think.  So if you say “I am ugly”, whether you believe it or not, your subconscious mind takes that thought and stores it as if you really think you are ugly.

So why do we need our subconscious mind and how does it benefit us?  Well for one, they create are long term memory so we can remember peoples names and help us remember vital information like are social security numbers and our telephone numbers.  It also helps with the development in our personalities at the early stages of our childhood.  The people and situations in our early upbringing shaped the way our subconscious and conscious brains work.  The thoughts and opinions from our parents, teachers, and our friends were programmed into our own personality and made us who we are today.

The Subconscious Mind And The Opinion Of Others

When many people were growing up they may have been programmed by thoughts and opinions that may not be right or they may have been negative.  Specifically, when talking about parents when they tell things to their children that may not be true.  The child doesn't know that it’s not true, it only takes his or her parents opinions as if they were fact rather than opinion.  For example, when a parent tells a child that you need to go to college if you want to be successful.  This may be true in some certain occupations, but realistically there have been millions of people who have been successful without ANY schooling.  Like Thomas Edison, he only had three months of schooling.  So what’s my point?  My point is that just because you were “programmed” at an early age, it doesn't mean that you can't change your beliefs into something more positive or beneficial to you.

How To Program Your Subconscious Mind

There are many tips, techniques, and strategies to help you change your opinions and thoughts in your own subconscious mind.  If you know how to do this then you can drastically change the way you live.  You can change the person who you are, into the person who you want to be.  You can stop unwanted habits and replace them with better habits.

You can practically do or have anything you want, but first you must understand that your subconscious mind won’t work for you if you don’t believe it yourself first.  So if you want to double your yearly income, but you don’t believe that its possible, then your subconscious mind won’t work with you and help you achieve your goal.  Because your conscious mind is telling the subconscious mind that it’s not possible and the subconscious mind takes everything as fact.  But if you tell it that its possible and you are constantly thinking about increasing your income, then your subconscious mind will work with you.  It will take all the stored information that it has from past experiences and will give you every possible way for you to achieve your goal of increased income.

So you really don’t need to have a plan for your goal to be achieved, you only need a desire for a goal and believe that you already have achieved that goal.  If you can do that, then your subconscious mind will create and organize a plan that you can try to reach that goal.  Not every plan that your subconscious mind gives you is going to be sound.  It may take a couple of plans to get your desired goal, it’s like a game.  It’s a game of trial and error.

They say that Thomas Edison made 2,000 attempts at perfecting the incandescent light bulb.  Basically he worked with his subconscious mind and when it gave him a plan he executed it and continued to do so 2,000 times until he made what the light bulb is today.

Here are some basic tips you can use daily to help you program your subconscious mind so it can benefit you:

Hypnosis

Hypnosis is very popular among many cultures and traditions.  It basically puts you into a deep consciousness by being relaxed.  This state of consciousness can be achieved by mediating.  So here are some tips on how to perform self hypnosis:

  •  Sit comfortably somewhere where you wont be disturbed, this could be indoors or outdoors, it doesn't matter.  As long as you’re in a comfortable position and you can relax.
  • Now close your eyes and clear your head of every thought that you have.  This is hard at first but with some practice you will get better at it.
  • After about twenty minutes with your head completely free of every thought, begin to see your goal and what it would look like if you had already achieved it.  See everything that will be with your goal.  If you want to double your income see yourself taking off work for a vacation because you can afford it, since you have more money.  Or if you want to loose weight, picture yourself wearing smaller clothes.

It is best if you do this twice a day.  Its even better if you do it more.  But after a couple of weeks from doing these steps, your subconscious mind can't help but try and find ways to achieve your goals that you are giving it.

Affirmations

Anther technique that works great, if it is mixed with hypnosis, is affirmations.  This when you repeat your goals to yourself over and over throughout the day.  Using the example above you would constantly say to yourself “I am so happy that I have doubled my yearly income and now I have the money to travel anytime I want to.”  If you say this all the time your subconscious mind will eventually pick those thoughts up and will be obsessed with obtaining those goals.  It will organize the plans for you to use and will constantly be working even when your sleeping.  A great way to start your day is with saying your affirmations as soon as you jump out of bed.  This will tell your subconscious mind this is what you want and throughout your day it will always be there in the back of your mind.

With these simple techniques, your subconscious mind will be programmed totally different than it is today.

If you are fimilar with the movie "The Secret" do you believe that the teachings are true?
