Jinny Beyer Quilt Patterns And Books

by fitzcharming

Learn about Jinny Beyer, a master quilter for over 30 years. Her rich colored fabrics and inspiring patterns designs have revolutionized the quilting industry.

Jinny Beyer is a pioneer in the world of quilting. She designs fabrics for the RJR fabric company, is a member of the Quilters Hall of Fame, has won numerous quilting awards in the industry, has authored many books, and lectures all over the world.

Jinny first began making quilts in 1972 while living in India. She loved to knit and when she ran out of yarn one day she decided to try a different craft. She was instantly hooked on quiltmaking and the rest is history.

Jinny Beyer was the first designer to create fabrics especially for quiltmaking. Her fabric designs reflect the deep rich colors found in Indian art. Her instantly recognizable style includes a wide array of patterns and prints. She typically introduces three collections of fabric every year. Each collection has distinctive color and pattern groups that coordinate perfectly in quiltmaking. Her specialty is creating border fabrics, and there is always at least one in every collection.

Jinny Has Many Quilting Awards

Jinny Beyers quilting career took off in 1978 when she entered her Ray of Light Medallion Quilt in the Good Housekeeping Great American Quilt contest.  Her entry won 1st place out of 10,000 quilts submitted.  Another award came from Quilters Newsletter Magazine in 1979 for the Bicentennial Quilt.  Quilters Newsletter Magazine is the premier magazine among serious quilters and winning that award catapulted her into a quilting superstar.

Jinny uses the hand piecing and quilting method.  She likes the portability and precision of hand piecing.  Her quilts are geometric patchwork creations.  Jinny Beyer videos demonstrate her techniques step by step, making it easy to learn.  And the sophisticated colors and shading in her fabrics allow even novices to create an heirloom quality quilt.  For machine quilters, her patterns can be adapted with the right quilt sewing machine and a bit of experience.
