Masterbuilt 30" Electric Smoker Review

by bigsky

See why the 30" Masterbuilt Electric Smoker is the next generation of smoker and how I found this beauty.

How I Came Across This Smoker

My Story

I am a hunter. My friends and I always go out deer hunting every season and afterwords, we head over to my buddy Tim's house to smoke up some venison. This is a picture of us guys before our 2010 trip.

By the way, if you've never tried smoked venison you don't know what you're missing!

Tim has a charcoal smoker and every year something goes wrong with it. Either the racks fall because the channels are so old they are rusted through or the charcoal isn't hot enough so we can't time the smoking right. He swears he will replace it but you know guys and their toys - we don't give them up easily!

Tim's rusty smokerI decided that for the sake of our friendship, it was time to get him a new smoker whether he wanted it or not. I found this guy Dave online on this site called Big Granite.

Dave got himself a Masterbuilt 30" electric smoker for fathers day - nice kids, wish mine..never mind. Anyway, thanks to his story and some of his recipes (his rib rub is da bomb!) I got Tim a new smoker. We smoked up some venison along with some pork ribs and man, it was awesome!

The 30" Masterbuilt Smoker's BEST FEATURES

Why This Is The LAZY MAN's Smoker

The Remote

By far this is the best feature that this smoker has to offer. It is a remote control that lets you adjust the cooking temperature, view the meat probe temperature and turn on and off the interior light. This one really came in handy when it was pouring outside last year. No more temping meat in the rain - that was worth the price right there!

Even Cooking

With Tim's old smoker you'd get the meat on the bottom rack burned while the meat on the top rack was undercooked. The 30" Masterbuilt electric evenly cooks from the bottom to the top rack. Because it's not a charcoal smoker, you can control the temperature better.

The Woodchip Loader

It loads from the side so you don't have to lose any of the heat or smoke by opening the front door. We use all kinds of chips from hickory to cherry without any problems. Just pull out the drawer on the side, load up your chips, push back in and turn. Easy!

The Cleanup

Seriously, this is probably one of the easiest jobs. Tim's wife used to hate cleaning his old rusted out smoker because there was no way to get it really clean. She loved this smoker because all the racks are removable, the drip tray removes easy for cleaning and the interior wipes down in minutes.
