Masters or Doctoral Graduation Gift Ideas

by Pinkchic18

If you have someone in your life who has completed an advanced degree, you’ll want to present them with a special gift that shows how proud you are of them. Here's some ideas!

Earning a Masters or Doctoral degree is quite an accomplishment. Just what can you give as a gift on an occasion as momentous as this? An advanced degree completion is not the same as a high school graduation. Many times the student is much older and more advanced in their career and life. So you’ll have to get a little creative with your choice of gifts.

Start With Their Degree

How about a subscription to an organization or publication that serves the education industry? Look for organizations that take new teachers on and mentor them or ask your friend about some of the publications out there for teachers. You can always add on to her subscription to a magazine she loves. Surprise her with the fact that you researched the organizations that are key to her field.

Gifts For Readers & Writers

Engineers, medical doctors, dentists and researchers all love to read. So, a gift that revolves around reading is a great idea.

Get them a gift certificate to a mega book store and include a luxurious leather journal or fountain pen to go with it.

You can also get them a reading lamp or mahogany lap desk to use if they have to do work in bed at home. There are so many reader- and writer- themed gifts from classic dictionary stands to elegant pen holders.

Go For Comfort

You can also give them a faux fur wrap for those cold nights at home or a food gift basket filled with comfort foods such as gourmet hot cocoa and other tasty treats.

Even a good home cooked meal to start their new life at their new place would be a thoughtful idea. If not a meal, how about some graduation cookies? Who could pass that up?

There are so many other wonderful congratulations gifts of comfort you can offer.

Give Cash

You can, of course, always give a gift of cash. Be sure to go to a bank and get a bunch of crisp new bills. Put them inside a nice card and tie the card up with a ribbon. Cash doesn’t have to be impersonal, and for someone who has just graduated, it can be a much welcomed gift.

A Moment To Remember

Choosing a gift like a memorable pewter photo frame with their graduation date or a classic silver vase with a nice engraving are also good ideas that commemorate the occasion. Try to make your inscription personal and meaningful. Most companies will engrave free of charge.

Make It Personal

Whatever you decide to gift your graduate with, make it personal. The more personal the gift, the better.

Think about the graduate’s unique field of study and their personality and then select a gift based on that.

Instead of going generic and just picking something off a shelf, try to create a gift that really shows you took the time to find a gift.

Masters or Doctors Graduation is really special moment in one's life. You made good points on finding the right gift and i believe we should think also about durability of the gift. This is even more important if we are looking for a present for somebody really close.
So if we choose something less personal (but maybe in given situation just perfect) like money, at least go for a nice card with warm message to accompany the gift and try to catch the moment in a nice photo:)

It is always difficult to come up with great graduation gifts. My sister-in-law just graduated from college at age 35 so I got her a gift card to one of her favorite stores along with a funny card....she loved it.
