The world is filled with amazing monuments and great natural wonders. This list embodies some of the truly spectacular destinations that you simply must see and experience. Famous structures such as the ancient pyramids of Giza and Taj Mahal as well as natural wonders such as the Pulpit Rock and the Great Barrier Reef are a handful of the most popular destinations in the world.

The only remaining wonder of the original Seven Wonders of the World is a must see destination for lovers of cultural and historical experiences. The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest and largest of the six pyramids in the Giza Necropolis. The desert area also includes the famous sculpture the Great Sphinx.

Taj Mahal

The white marble mausoleum is one of the most recognisable buildings in the world, and a must see destination when visiting India. It has become the symbol of Islamic architecture in India, and draws more than 2 million tourists every year. The Taj Mahal is located in Ugra in the region of Agra south of New Delhi.

Great Barrier Reef

The world’s largest coral reef system boasts an amazing variety of coral and life, and is a must see destination for snorkelers from around the globe. The reef system stretches for more than 2,600 kilometres off the Queensland coast. Pollution is said to endanger the balanced eco-system of the reefs, so it is better to visit sooner rather than later.

Venice

Do not hesitate to visit Venice, as the myriad of islands connected by more than 400 bridges and separated by the famous canals is in the process of sinking. This place is a must for romantics, and is a great destination for anniversaries or other special occasions.

Santorini

The island Santorini in Greece is a result of ancient volcano eruptions. The island is known for the beautiful white painted buildings that decorate the side of the cliffs down towards the water. The island is also known for its fabulous sandy beaches. Santorini is a great destination for couples looking for a romantic escape.

Machu Pichu

The famous Inca ruins in Peru lies over 2,400 metres above sea level has been nick-named as “The Lost City”. The impressive 15th century village was discovered in 1911 in the middle of a tropical mountain forest, creating a spectacular setting.

Uluru

Ayres Rock, or Uluru, is a great red rock located in the middle of Australia near Alice Springs. This natural wonder becomes even more fascinating considering that all around the rock is completely flat. Uluru is sacred to the aboriginal population of Australia.

Preikestolen – Pulpit rock

This cliff in Norway has a vertical drop of 604 meters and boasts breathtaking views over the fjord and valley below. It is one of the most popular tourist sites in Norway, and accessible from Stavanger on the west coast. Tourists trek up to this majestic plateau to enjoy the views. Some daredevils venture all the way to the edge, though it is imperative to pay respect to the heights, as the historic site claimed its first recorded casualty in 2013.

Maldives

The Maldives is a group of islands located in the Indian Ocean. The island group is famous for the luxurious resorts around the various sandy islands. The Maldives is a perfect honeymoon destination, and also popular for snorkelers, with an array of beautiful reefs to discover. As with Venice, the extremely flat islands of The Maldives is in danger of flooding, as they blame global warming and rising sea-levels.

These are only a handful of amazing natural wonders to experience, and there will undoubtedly be strong contenders for this list. Naturally, most of us have limited access to time and money to see these spectacular sites in person. Thankfully, somebody else has already been to these places to document their beauty with moving images.
