New Twist on Refrigerator Magnets

by blackspanielgallery

Stone magnets are a fun, decorative twist on refrigerator magnets with decorative uses in workspace as well. Customize the magnets if you wish.

Refrigerator magnets have been around for a long time, and they have their uses. One can have paper held for easy viewing. We have a paper chart on the refrigerator with safe cooking temperatures for various meats. It helps to not have to not have to consult the computer to see what internal temperature chicken should reach before serving that chicken.

So, how can we improve of a household staple with a proven track record? The answer is twofold. First, we can make the magnets even more decorative using stone. Second, we can repurpose decorative magnets to another unrelated use.

Intro Image

This is an image taken from Zazzle of one of my stone magnets.

Stone Magnets

Varieties

Zazzle has a line of stone magnets.  No, the stones are not magnetic.  Instead, they are attached to the magnets.

Zazzle had six stone magnet options.  The options are primed marble stone, marble stone, sandstone stone, and travertine stone.

I looked at the blank images and saw some natural lines in the travertine stone.  I checked the ratings, and I did see comments about the sandstone stone magnets not properly showing darker parts of the images.  Perhaps this is due to the roughness of sandstone.  Choose carefully.  The stones do differ in price, but sometimes choosing the cheapest option makes the final product less appealing.

The stone I have used in my product line, and there is an option to change it, is primed marble.  I expect the primer to fill in any small imperfections on the surface.

Magnet Size

Specifications

Each magnet is two inches by two inches, and the thickness, including the magnet, is 0.63 inch.

Four Magnet Set

A Zazzle Option

Zazzle offers stone magnets separately or in groups of four.  The issue I have with groups of four is I have to guess which four a person might want.  I suggest you determine how many magnets you need, and in which configuration you want to place them.

The Repurposing of Stone Magnets

One option is to use these stone magnets as decorative pieces in the office.  Cubicle furniture often has steel in it, a ferrous metal to which a magnet will attach.  Use decorative stone magnets to decorate workspace.  There are no holes needed.

Regardless of refrigerator use or office cubical use the stone magnet has the advantage of not requiring nails.  The magnets simple stay where they are placed.  They can be easily changed for a holiday that is approaching!

Zazzle Offers Personalization

Personalization is possible if the creator of the product makes it a template item, as I do.

One way one might personalize a stone magnet is to replace the image with one’s own.  No one will make a product showing your family members, but you can if you have digital images.  Zazzle does have a pixel size for good results, and some negative comments come from people using their own image with too few pixels.  However, if you pay attention to the upper right of the image and Zazzle determines the image is too large for the pixels a warning message appears.  Click the blue bubble and read any message and you will avoid disappointment.  In fact, Zazzle sometimes offers to enhance an image, and it is a good idea to allow the enhancement.

Another personalization is to add words, such as names.  Here you have several options, placement, font size, which font you want, and color.

A good reason for personalization is if the product is going where English is not the primary language.  A Christmas magnet might have Merry Christmas on it, but the customer might prefer, for example, Noel or Feliz Navidad.

Zazzle uses layering, the top layer obscures layers below .  The background image always drops into the lowest layer  Centering is easy, just move it up or down, then left or right.  When you center a fine green line appears.

If wording is desired it goes in the final layer.

Stone Magnets Only Slightly More Expensive than the Original Magnets

If stone magnets are more expensive than desired original magnets, available in multiple sizes and shapes, is an option.  But the difference is just a few dollars.  These should be affordable.

Office Décor

For a professional office where customers come, such as a doctor or dentist office, decorations for holidays is a welcoming touch.  Some staff enjoy placing them.

If space is limited, but steel furniture is in use, I recommend stone magnet decorations for many different holidays.  The magnets not in use are easily stored.  Magnets take up very little space.
