Believed to have originated in North America, this popular gourd is available everywhere in the world today. Seeds from pumpkin vine species have been found in Mexico which is as ancient as 5000 BC.

The phrase pumpkin changed many names, French called it ‘Pompon” whereas the English termed it “”Pumpion”. The modern term got derived by the American colonists who referred the gourd as “Pumpkin”.

The origin of pumpkin in US is believed to be brought by the Native American Indians. They used pumpkin as a staple food in their meals many years before the pilgrims landed in America. The Native Indians used pumpkins beautifully in many ways. Not only was the pumpkin a delicious ingredient of their recipes, dried pumpkin was also utilized for making mats.
