Purple cookware and kitchen utensils

by EmpressFelicity

Purple isn't the first color you'd think of for your kitchen utensils/accessories, but it can look surprisingly good

The colour purple isn't necessarily the first one you might think of when decorating a kitchen.  Red, green or brown perhaps, or black/white/shades of grey, but not purple.  This is a shame, because accessorising your kitchen with purple cookware is a great way to stamp your personality on it - it's less "girly" than pink, although there's nothing wrong with being girly!  And there is a surprisingly large choice of purple kitchen cookware and utensils available to buy online, as this hub will demonstrate.  You can have your pick of all shades of purple too, from lilac/lavender to royal purple to aubergine/cassis; the choice is yours.

Purple cookware

Le Creuset cast iron cookware has a long-standing reputation - this French company has been making cookware since 1925. The 5.5 quart French oven shown in the in the capsule below is oven safe up to 325 deg. F, and can be used with any heat source including induction. The colour shown is "cassis", which is a gorgeous blackcurranty shade, and it comes in a rainbow of other colours too. If 5.5 quarts isn't big enough, then they also do larger versions too, and you can also go smaller. If you want a saucepan shape rather than a French oven, the Le Creuset 2.25 quart cast iron saucepan measures 16.5 x 8.8 x 5 inches..

Purple plastic containers, lunch boxes and tumblers

As you might expect, Tupperware can be relied on to provide a great choice of purple kitchen containers and lunchboxes (as well as the odd sandwich box or two).  For example, their "Smidgets" are tiny one ounce plastic bowls with lids, designed to store the odd spoonful of left over sauce, grated Parmesan or whatever. Another option is the Bento Buddies range by Laptop Lunches; this is dishwasher safe and made in the USA. It's also free from PVC, phthalates and bisphenol A (BPA). Do note that the containers can be used in the microwave, but not the lids. The set comprises an extra large container (6 by 5 by 2 inches); a large container (4.75 by 3.12 by 2 inches); a medium container (3.12 by 2.5 by 2 inches); and a small container (2 by 1.5 by 1.5 inches).

Other purple kitchen utensils

The Pure Komachi sandwich knife is actually made of stainless steel; the purple colour comes from FDA-approved resin which is bonded to the blade!  It's not just for sandwiches - it also cuts through fruit and vegetables, and the wide blade will help you scoop mayonnaise out of jars. Comes in a range of other colours too.  Along similar lines is Kuhn Rikon's paring knife, which has a handy plastic sheath to protect the blade (and your fingers when you reach inside the drawer).

Oneida's purple cutting board is make of high density polypropylene and comes in several other colours - if food safety is your priority, you could buy one of each and (for example) use the green one for cutting fruit/vegetables, the orange or red one for raw meat and the purple one for bread and cake. Grande Epicure also does cutting boards, which come in purple amongst other colours.
