Tasco Essentials Compact Binoculars, A Review

by candy47

They're compact, lightweight and affordable. They will easily fit in a handbag or backpack and are comfortable to wear around your neck when walking or hiking.

The time had come for me to replace my old pair of binoculars. I use them mostly for bird-watching in my yard, so I don't need anything too sophisticated or expensive, In fact, inexpensive was my top priority when shopping for a new pair of binoculars. I found these Tasco Essentials Compact Binoculars on Amazon, they fit the bill perfectly.

My Old Binoculars

Out With the Old

Old BinocularsThis is what my binoculars look like after I've dropped them on a rock while standing on my deck, about eight feet high. They were about ten years old and have been dropped many times before. This time crazy glue just wasn't going to work. Out with the old and in with the new.

These old binoculars were heavy and bulky and uncomfortable when hanging around my neck. Although I didn't actually realize that until I got my new ones.

What Do Those Numbers Mean?

These Tasco Binoculars are 10 x 25 mm. So what does that mean? I decided to find out, so here it is:

The first number is the magnification. That means how many times closer the object will appear. In this pair that number is 10. The object is magnified 10 times.  The greater the magnification, the narrower the field of vision.

The second number is the size of the objective lens diameter in millimeters. These Tasco's are 25 mm. The objective lens gathers light to allow the object to appear brighter. The size of the objective lens also determines the size of the binoculars.

The exit pupil is the size of the hole through which light travels to the eye. Simply put, the larger the exit pupil, the brighter the object.

Final Thoughts

The price of these Tasco Binoculars was just right for me, not wanting to spend a lot of money. They come in an assortment of colors. I went with black, I'm not looking to make a fashion statement while hiking through the desert looking at birds and cacti. They're lightweight, weighing in at 8.2 ounces.

The lenses can be adjusted to fit the span of your eyes and there is a wheel in the center for focusing.

Take them to music concerts and sporting events to see all the action up close and personal. These binoculars get a five star rating from me!

I have my dads military field glasses and they are cumbersome. I know that I would prefer Compact Binoculars, thanks for the great product review
