These Established Pop Stars' Latest Album Flopped

by squidooprincess2012

These pop stars ruled the music charts more than 10 years ago. Now, it looks like their fans have forgotten they still release music.

More than 10 years ago, when these pop stars released either a single or an album, their material could easily go straight to number 1. They were often invited to close or open awards shows, and fans lined up to buy their music (that is, back when CDs were popular).

Today, it looks like fans have forgotten about their music. Or perhaps their star has dimmed. Or perhaps the music industry has changed (i.e., downloadable files vs physical copies).

Whatever the reason is, the numbers don't lie. These pop stars aren't as "best-selling" as they were a decade ago. In fact, their latest album flopped. Take a look.

1. Britney Spears

Latest Album: Britney Jean, 107,000 units

On its first week of release, Britney Jean debuted at number 4 at the Billboard 200 with 107,000 units. Although the numbers aren't as bad as J-Lo's (which you'll see later), Britney Jean is the lowest charting Britney Spears album to date. In fact, all but one of her albums went straight to number 1.

2. Jennifer Lopez

Latest Album: A.K.A., expected first week sales: 30-35K

Compared to JLo's last studio album called Love? which disappointed at the charts with only 80,000+ units in its first week of release and was called a flop, A.K.A. is expected to become more of a flop as it is expected to sell only 35,000 units in its first week of release.

3. Christina Aguilera

Latest Album: Lotus, 73,408 units

Christina Aguilera may have done an amazing job at The Voice, but the publicity made nothing to help her sell her music. In fact, her latest studio album she released back in 2012 sold only more than 73,000 units in its first week of release.

Here's something interesting. According to celebrity blogger Perez HiltonLady Gaga may have something to do with these low numbers. Perez accused Gaga of sabotaging Lotus.

4. Mariah Carey

Latest Album: Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse, 58,000 copies

Just like Britney, this latest album is Mariah Carey's lowest selling album during its first week of release. Back in the days, Mariah is the diva to beat. Although she can still sing very well, I guess the public wants to listen to the newer generation of divas.

The World Wants Newer Pop Stars

Although the above-stated pop stars are still famous and still raking in some serious dough (e.g., Britney Spears' Las Vegas gig and JLo's American Idol judging stint), we can't deny that this decade is for a new breed of divas.

Sure, the music industry has changed. But these newer and fresher music stars can manage to sell their music and be number one. Here's a list of these new pop stars and how many copies their latest album sold in its first week in the US.

- Taylor SwiftRed, 1.21 million copies

- RihannaUnapologetic,238,000 copies

- Katy PerryPrism, 286,000 copies

- Lady GagaArtpop, 258,000 copies

Miley CyrusBangerz, 270,000 units

Adele21, 352,000 copies

Nicki Minaj, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, 253,000 copies

Britney is still my fave. She's the queen of pop and many of these new stars are following her footsteps.. She's the biggest star of 00's, thanks to her legendary fame, she is still doing good although she does not care promos etc. She's got the power..
