Vintage Antique Victorian Heart Charms

by lakeerieartists

When it comes to romantic gifts, one of the most romantic is a sterling silver, or gold heart charm.

Modern heart charms are very beautiful, but I have a special place in my heart for vintage antique heart charms, especially from the Victorian period.

When looking for vintage heart charms, you can find some lovely replicas that are made by jewelers today. Because the vintage styles are popular, many modern jewelers have adopted similar styles when making heart charms.

However, if you want the genuine article, a vintage antique Victorian heart charm, then you will have to search through collectors' and resellers' inventory for estate jewelry. Ebay is my favorite place to search for treasures, because there are so many people on Ebay with genuine vintage jewelry that can't be found anywhere else.

There is never a wrong time to give a romantic heart charm to your spouse or children, but they do make wonderful gifts for Valentine's Day, anniversaries, or special birthdays.

Heart Charms Can Be Pendants

One of the things that is so great about heart charms, or any kind of charm for that matter is that they are meant to hang from a chain, so they can be put on a charm bracelet, but they can also be made into a pendant for a necklace.

A heart charm necklace makes a lovely gift for a young girl or an adult, and you can hang the charm on a leather cord, ribbon, or gold or silver chain.  A simple, yet very nice and thoughtful gift.

Romantic Gifts Never Go Out of Style

Today, hearts are still a symbol of the love that can grow between two people, and between parents and child, making heart gifts one of the only things that never goes out of style.

Victorian Style

The Victorian period was full of fussy style, filigree, embellishments, and frippery, and that shows up in the jewelry from that period.

Even a small heart charm was decorated with lots of cutouts, floral motifs, and filigree as well as some gemstones. Another Victorian embellishment was enamel, which could be as tiny as a small charm and full of detail. It is hard to imagine making something so small by hand.

Victorian Charm Jewelry

Victorians wore charm bracelets, charm necklaces, and charm brooches.  The more charms the better during Victorian times, but one of the things that you can do with Victorian heart charms is create new pieces of jewelry by taking an entire Victorian charm bracelet apart, and recreating bracelets, necklaces, or even brooches, with less fuss, and a little more modern look.

Or just wear the lovely Victorian jewelry as is, a genuine antique.

For a romantic gift, there isn't a symbol more telling than the heart charm. And heart charms have been romantic symbols for a long time, making it one of the easiest vintage char
