Vintage Writing Desk

by pkmcr

Living in a period home one of the things that I have wanted for some little while is a Vintage Writing Desk. Somewhere that I can sit and write without a computer in sight!

Ever since we moved into a period or vintage style home one of the things that I have wanted is a Vintage Writing Desk. Somewhere away from the computer desk where I can sit and write, Whether that's letters to friends (do you remember writing letters to people rather than emailing them?) or notes for presentations I am going to give.

Unlike a computer desk or an office desk, a writing desk is specifically designed to make writing letters and documents much easier. Now of course you’ll find writing desks designed for laptops because these days there are more people sending emails than there are writing letters.

But if like me you prefer the look and style of a vintage writing desk, then below are just a few examples of the different kinds that are available online.

Butler Specialties Vintage Oak Writing Desk

A Truly Beautiful Piece of Furniture

This writing desk from Butler Specialties features a vintage oak finish and is perfect for any space. It’s made from the finest quality of wood and choice oak veneers.

The details you see on the desk are hand carved with a level of craftsmanship that’s not typical in a lot of furniture these days. Also included is a drawer with brass hardware; perfect for placing writing utensils and other small items.

The desk measures 35 inches wide, 20 inches deep and 30 inches tall.

Ladies Writing Desk

Ladies writing desks have a much daintier appearance to them compared to traditional writing desks. Their smaller frames are ideal for tight corners and limited spaces.

Wharton Writing Desk

A Stunning Vintage Writing Desk

Wharton’ writing desk adds a special ornate element to its Toscano design.

It features a two tone finish that includes dark ebony finish with a walnut colored desk top, elegant bow legs, supporting serpentine stretcher bar, three drawers, six individual cubbies, a tiny door compartment, and a display shelf.

Not only is this desk stylish but it’s also highly functional and versatile. It’s crafted from quality engineered composite wood and measures 32 inches wide, 24 inches deep, and 42 inches high.

Butler Laptop Desk - Plantation Cherry

Another Stunning Vintage Style Writing Desk Which You Could Use With Your Laptop!

A few variations of the writing desk feature a flip top writing surface that allows you to conceal your items when not in use for a clean and clutter free desk.

And while this desk may have a distressed plantation cherry finish which attributes to its vintage look, it’s actually quite functional for the modern day laptop user.

Built into its hardwood and cherry veneer structure are electrical outlets so you can conveniently use your laptop at the desk.

The desk dimensions are 36 inches wide, 20 inches deep and 34 inches high.

@katiem there is a real sense of pleasure to be had from sitting at one of these desks and writing a letter. It's also good for my handwriting as well which can become a tad untidy without practice given we do so much typing as opposed to writing these days.

@belinda we have been fortunate to inherit some beautiful pieces too and being able to fnd pieces that match them or compliment them is a real bonus.

I was lucky enough to inherit my very favorite piece of furniture. Well, actually Mom gave it to me while she was still alive. She knew how much it meant to me. Even when I was a wee little tyke, I was writing. My beautiful antique is a combination bookcase with glass door and a pull down writing desk, with three drawers underneath the writing station. It has an honored place in my home and always will.
