If you are on a diet program, or have any other dietary restrictions like wheat or gluten allergies, you know how hard it is to have good tasting food that meets the restrictions.

If you are on a weight loss program, or have any other dietary restrictions like wheat or gluten allergies, you know how hard it can be to have good tasting food that meets the restrictions you must follow. While it is good for our bodies to eat healthy food, we also need food that will taste good and feed our soul.

I am currently on a very strict weight loss program which requires me to eat a lot of raw and cooked vegetables. And really, I do like vegetables, but I also like to have more choices, and flavors that are better than just passable.

Restrictive diets are tough to follow

Walden Farms honey dijon dressing

I have never liked diet or calorie free salad dressings, but my diet required that I use calorie free salad dressings, and my doctor suggested that I try Walden Farms Salad Dressings, which are sugar free, calorie free, fat free, carbohydrate free, and gluten free. At her advice, I bought the Balsamic Vinagrette and the Honey Dijon salad dressings first. And I have to say that I was amazed at how good they were.

Adding Flavor to Food

I am not the kind of person who likes to drown my food in sauces or salad dressing, but I do like full flavor food. I don't like to eat salad without dressing, or meat and fish without seasoning. What I found with the Walden Farms salad dressings was that since they have no calories I can use as much as I need to add flavor, and not worry about ruining my diet or eating the wrong foods.

I don't have to measure anything, which is something that I can never maintain for more than a week, and I do not get frustrated when I am dieting. And the best thing of all, is that they taste great.

During the summer, my husband and love to grill, and we usually marinate our meat and vegetables in Italian dressing which is a vinegar and oil based dressing. This keeps the meat and vegetables moist and adds flavor. Since oil is severely restricted on this diet, the Italian dressing is out. So we decided to try substituting the Walden Farms Balsamic Vinagrette. I was frankly wary about the results because I have never liked the flavor of no fat salad dressing. But I have to say that I have had a total change of heart. I love the flavor of the marinated food in Walden Farms Balsamic Vinagrette.

So far we have used the Walden Farms Balsamic Vinagrette on beef, chicken, and salmon as well as grilled vegetables such as asparagus (yum!), vidalia onion, portabella mushrooms, and red peppers, all with success.

Other Walden Farms Salad Dressing Flavors

The Walden Farms Honey Dijon dressing is my other favorite so far.  I use it as a salad dressing, a dip for fish and chicken, and as a dip for fresh, raw vegetables.  It is creamy, but doesn't taste like no calorie dressing.

I have also used the Asian dressing as a marinade on chicken and fish, and in place of soy sauce in a stir fry on the stove.  The stir fry was Chinese vegetables, a mushroom blend, and bean sprouts cooked in a wok.  Then I added grilled chicken to complete the meal.  It was truly excellent.

I still haven't tried all of the Walden Farms salad dressing flavors, so as I do I will add my opinions on those.  Walden Farms salad dressing does have to be kept refrigerated so I take it to work in my lunch bag with an ice pack.  I do recommend these dressings, and will keep using them even when my diet is over, because why waste calories on a salad dressing, when you can use it up on real food instead.  And they taste good.

We were also on a very restrictive diet and I don't know how we would have done it without Walden Farms. I love their products. One of my husband and my favorites was their carmel sauce. I peel and slice a raw apple, sprinkle it with cinnamon and splenda and cook it in the microwave for 2 minutes. When done I add a teaspoon of the carmel sauce...mmm..delicious!!
