Wedding Favour Ideas For Small Budgets

by AlexandriaIngham

Wedding favours don't have to stretch your wedding budget. If you have a small budget, here are some great wedding favour ideas to choose from.

Having a small wedding budget can make you think you’re limited. While that is often the case, it doesn’t mean you’re limited for style and great looking wedding favours. It is possible to make your own or you can buy small items to give to your guests. Here are a few wedding favour ideas for small budgets that look great.

When I got married, we were on a very tight budget. We took advantage of some great low-cost websites and decided to double up on a few ideas. It brings me to the first great option.

Mix Your Name Places with Your Wedding Favours

Cut the cost considerably by mixing two of your wedding needs together. This really worked for our wedding.

My wedding favour that doubled as name placesWe bought mini photo frames that would double up as name places for the wedding breakfast and worked as favours. Initially we wanted to put photos of our guests in but since I have hand-writing that is neat enough, we just wrote the names in. It really worked well for the big day and there are many who are now using the photo frames for a special photo taken on the big day.

A friend recently, had a music/gig theme to his wedding. He opted for “back stage passes” that worked as the name places and favours.

I love these wedding favour ideas because they allow you to create something special for your day. You can make it part of your theme or include something practical for your guests afterwards—a constant way to remember your big day. This trick also cuts the cost since you only have to buy one item per person!

Make Your Own Sweets

Sugared almonds are a popular option for wedding favour ideas but what about making your own?

Small bags are very affordable from places like eBay and Amazon. We bought a set of 200 in various colours to suit our wedding theme. These were for the guests who weren’t coming to our wedding breakfast, so wouldn’t get a photo frame. From there, we could put sweets into the bags. This is a great chance to make your own sweets, toffee or treat for your wedding guests.

This is one of the best wedding favour ideas if there is something special from where you live. We had a Scottish sweet called Tablet, which we were going to make for our guests. Most of my family and friends had never heard of it and I do regret that we didn’t have the time to do it—but we spent more time getting our outfits sorted and we did a pre-wedding honeymoon since it was the London Paralympics 2012 at the time.

Almonds were once a favourite for wedding favour ideas, especially on small budget. Sugared almonds are affordable or you could coat your own so they are in your own colours. Sugar coated minutes or chocolates are also a popular option if you want something easily affordable for your small wedding budget.

One friend opted for making her own chocolate and orange chocolate lollies for wedding favours. They sat in the middle of the table and were well decorated to match the wedding theme. Personally, I never got to try one since my daughter decided she enjoyed her so much that she took mine! I heard they were good and they worked really well for their budget and wedding theme.

A Small Trinket Box

Wedding favours were traditionally trinket boxes. Follow that on your small budget by making your own.

Wedding favours were originally small, decorated trinket boxes and you could use the traditional wedding favour ideas for your own. You don’t need to spend a lot to create these small and beautiful boxes. In fact, you could buy your own on eBay, Amazon and many other websites. The boxes also contained sugared sweets.

You could also create your own little trinket boxes. You can buy plain boxes and decorate them in your own wedding colours, whether with small jewels, ribbon or beads.

These trinkets could even double up as something else. They would make beautiful centrepieces on the table or you could add a name plate to them to create a name place at a dinner. Try trinkets in the shape of a chair with the name place resting on the seat of the chair. There are plenty of directions online to create your own boxes.

Those are just three wedding favour ideas for small budgets. They’re really simple to do and work really easily for different skill levels, wedding themes and needs. I loved doubling my wedding favours with the name places but you may want to show off your baking skills and create a special sweet for your guests.

Thank you, ologsinquito. It's amazing just how many great websites are out there now. eBay became my best friend. I think the only thing we spent a large amount (for what they were and who they were for) was our daughter's handmade booties. She did get two uses out of them though, since she wore them for her christening too.

Thank you, cmoneyspinner. Good luck at that!

Mira, Jo is right. Sugared almonds are delicious. We had a few left over and I ended up eating them all before I started my diet. It was really funny trying to find them though--we had to go down the seasonal aisle at the supermarket since they're really only eaten at Christmas now!

You should eat sugared almonds! They're delicious. :)

Do people actually eat those sugared almonds? I store mine in a cupboard. One day I wondered if they were edible. That's when I found out what they were exactly. I thought they were something else -- for good luck, fertility, God knows what. Funny, huh?:)
