There are a number of ways that you can cut costs when it comes to planning a wedding without making it look like you are having a cheap one. Put your money in the places that are going to make the most impact and the most memories and be more frugal in areas that make sense.
For instance, the invitation. Today a lot of couples are getting creative and sending their invitations by email. If this doesn't suit you there are other ways to bring the cost of sending out invitations. You could always send out a save the date email and then follow up with a simple, but budget friendly invitation. Don't forget to include the postage in your budget!
Another place to save some money is the location. If you are a non-traditional bride then why not have your wedding ceremony in a park, museum or even a private home. I have a couple of friends who got married in a rose garden in a local botanical garden. It was a beautiful day and the pictures turned out amazing. Just make sure you pick a month that is warm and rain free!
Another way to save money on the venue is to pick a time that is off-season. Another words, have a wedding date between November and April as you might be able to save some money and for sure try to avoid Saturdays.
I know you probably want to have all your friends and family in attendance but a sure way to trim the budget is to trim the guest list.
One real easy way to reduce costs is by having your guests take pictures during the ceremony and reception and then sharing them with you. Save your money and hire a professional photographer only for some important moments.
One of the most expensive items at any wedding is the food and liquor costs. For my own wedding I choose an afternoon time for the ceremony followed by a reception tea. Since there were only sandwiches and sweets the costs were less. And the only liquor was champagne for the toast. You can cut costs here by having a potluck meal or having only beer and wine available for your guests.
When it comes to decorations you can keep it simple and inexpensive by checking out items at the dollar store. You can find all sorts of paper lanterns, twinkle lights, tulle, seashells and other inexpensive ways to decorate your reception area.
Consider using your iPod for music during the reception. If the venue doesn't have a sound system it isn't very expensive to rent one. Much cheaper than hiring a band or a DJ!
Last by not least is the wedding attire. There are a number of gorgeous, inexpensive wedding gowns available on Amazon. For the groom and groomsmen it is traditional for them to rent their suits or if they already have a dark suit in their wardrobe they can wear them.
You can also cut down on the cost of bridesmaids' dresses by buying them on Amazon and also you might want to consider cutting the number of bridesmaids you have in your wedding party.
