Is there something that you have always wanted to do with your life but you could not afford to leave your job and pursue it?  You can look at this change as a sign that you should pursue that career that you always wanted to have.  And depending on what happened and why you are pursuing this career change, you may be able to qualify for government programs or other methods of funding to help pay for your education to continue on your way to career change.

Depending on your situation, this may be a lot easier said than done.  For instance, my own job was eliminated a year ago.  I knew it was coming but I was crossing my fingers they would wait thirty or more years before they got rid of it.  While I was able to move to a different position within my company, over the years I knew that this new position was not one I wanted to be in for the rest of my working years, I was able to use this time to think about what I wanted to do with my life.  While I have not totally come up with a new game plan, it has spurred me into taking some classes which will open my career possibilities up once I am done.  When you need to write a career change cover letter, you can easily spin this in a positive way which will benefit you.

The biggest thing to remember when something like this happens is that it was likely not anything you did but a change that your employer had to make.  Maybe it was a way to survive the economy or that the position was no longer required.  Find the silver lining and make this career change a positive thing.
