Angry Birds Origami

by Marie

Here's a fun resource page for Angry Bird themed paper folding and origami crafts. As a fan of the popular games, I enjoy making and crafting characters from paper.

A one-stop page for all your paper crafting needs. Featured on this page are all the best links to origami diagrams, instructions and videos showing how to make the different Angry Bird characters such as the Red or Cardinal Bird, The White or Egg-Laying Bird, The Green Bird and The Pigs.

Lots of crafting fun for fans of these popular gaming characters. This page features both 2D and 3D modular tutorials for both kids and adults to enjoy making from paper. Which one will you make today? Or do you prefer to make their arch-enemies, The Pigs? See what this author made below.

The Red Angry Bird is Based on a Cardinal

See the Resemblance in the Image Provided

I added my daughter's plush toy on top of this brilliant photo of a Cardinal so you can see the resemblance between the two and where the real inspiration for this favorite video game character actually came from - which happens to be real life nature itself. Isn't this really cool.

Art imitates life and all that. So to really make an origami Angry Bird of the popular red variety, what you should be looking to do is make a cardinal. But I guess that depends on whether you want to paper fold something that looks like the funny game design or the real life variety instead!

Best Origami Instructions for Angry Bird Characters

Here's My Selection of Top Picks but also See the Videos Below

There are precious few folding instructions online for these fun characters apart from videos on YouTube which I have hunted out to find the best selection. But instructions and diagrams are few and far between. Here are some that you can use:

  1. How to Fold a Real Angry Bird! This one is a really funny design and looks good made from paper that is of the two-color variety - I love the example made in yellow and red which looks really striking.
  2. Piggie Face Instructions Make this cute face with green paper and add the bobble eyes to create a fun design that kids will enjoy.
  3. Easy Shaped Pig A beginner folding project to make a pig which is similar but an easier version of the ones I made below and that you can see further down the page.
  4. Difficult Standing Pig This model is much harder to make but you can see how impressive it looks when you view the images for the finished piece. Make it in green and make it look fierce like the enemy should be!
  5. 3D Modular Origami Black Bird If you're into the 3D modular crafting, here is a fab how-to which shows the making of an Angry black bird.

Paper Crafting and Origami Videos

Showing You How to Make the Red Variety

I still don't think anyone has yet designed the perfect paper folded bird from the game but here are some of the best options for creating this fun character using a variety of techniques and also different skill-sets. If you'd prefer to fold the more traditional Cardinal as I have, check out my image and link to instructions for that below.

These are all videos on YouTube:

  2. Paper Folded Red Variety
  3. Box Bird to Print, Cut and Assemble
  4. Paper Folded Red Hats

My Own Origami Cardinal

Personally I Prefer this Species of Bird to the Cartoon Variety!

If you click on the image, it will take you to the exact step by step video that I used in order to fold this beautiful Cardinal. This is my homage to the Red Angry Bird - otherwise known as a male Northern Cardinal bird which is what the game character is really based on after all! This craft project isn't for the faint hearted. It took me many attempts although I'll admit that I'm only at an intermediate stage of paper folding. I hope you are finding this wizzles page to be useful because it has been written with care. Scroll Down to Check out a Photo of my Green Pigs too!

Possible Species

There is always an ongoing debate online as to which species of birds inspired the characters for the hit video game series. Here's the general consensus as to which real-life feathered varieties may have been part responsible for the cartoon versions.

Red Bird = Cardinal
White Bird = Chicken
Blue Bird = Mountain Bluebird
Green Bird = Toucanet
Black Bird = Greater Antillean Bullfinch
Yellow Bird = Yellow Warbler

Here Come the Pigs: Oink, Oink!

I Love these Green Fellas, What Do You Think?

Here's the green pigs I've folded in tribute to the game! The one on the right is a fairly easy model which comes from the book 'Easy Origami' by John Montroll. The green pig on the left, which is such a cutie, is created from the instructions in the book 'Favorite Animals in Origami' also by John Montroll. These books are shown below. I hope you've enjoyed reading my wizzles page today, thanks for your visit. This author has a great range of books on this craft, the instructions are simple black and white diagrams but the models are fab.

@writerartist thank you. Paper folding is a fun and inexpensive activity - and it makes children think too because there is a set order to the creating.

@Tolovaj What a great idea to make a cage with origami birds inside - I have some hanging bird cage lanterns that I was planning a craft project for and paper birds would be a good addition. I like the sound of your crafty aquarium :)

@PeggyHazelwood, thank you. The pigs were a blast to make and my daughter (5) wanted to know why I was making them in green when we all know that pigs are pink! Ha ha.

Making origami Angry Birds is definitely fun and the kids are going to love it too.

About a week ago I learned how to make aquarium from old box and how to populate it with origami fish. It was great fun. I suppose we can do something similar with a cage and origami birds? Looks like fun project! Thanks:)

I love Angry Birds and your origami renditions are great! LOVE the pigs!

We all like playing Angry Birds in this house - I love the fact that you can pick up the games and just play for a few minutes or longer if you want to. I don't have too much time to play games so enjoy ones which you can easily dip in and out of. Thanks for stopping by.

These are clever. I have to admit to playing angry birds a time or two (or more).

Thanks, Paul. I had a lot of fun with this and I hope others do too.

What a great way to combine a really lovely craft and a very popular character (so my nieces and nephews tell me!) The kids are going to love this.
