That is interesting. This use of the word "supper" for an English evening meal as opposed to evening "snack " suggests what we would call an English middle class boarding school background.

It is part of the northern dialect. If you went to Cornwall in the SW or parts of Lincolnshire in the East you would hear some strange dialects there. They exist mainly in countryside areas.

I cannot remember the source of my information , but the Norse element in the Lancashire population was Norwegian [except for the southern area near the Mersey] so Norwegian words entered Lancashire dialect.
