Why I Don't Do Keyword Research

@samsons1 Thanks Sam. I used to think about retiring. Now I'm not sure I'll be able to stop doing this!

Why I Don't Do Keyword Research

Very interesting article, and to find out that some of us simply enjoy placing words in sequence for the mere joy it brings is somehow rewarding in itself...

Why I Don't Do Keyword Research

@Sam @Lissie I think my longtails are longer than yours! I'm not after keyword phrases that are less common but still profitable. Instead I am after the extreme long tail - the searches that will only ever be typed a handful of times - I just want lots of them, and they're often quite specific so tend to convert well. These phrases probably don't appear in my copy - but many of the words do.

@Lissie Actually I'm dreadful at checking what keywords bring me traffic. I used to and was horrified when I didn't already know about some of the terms that were bringing me traffic on topics I really ought to know all about. Then I started doing market research instead.

@DrDarko I agree that keyword research can work, I'm just not convinced it's the best approach. None of my top traffic articles on Wizzley are the result of keyword research (but I'm not usually aiming for traffic as a goal.) And neither are any of my top tier lenses on Squidoo.

Things I Love About Wizzley: Fan Pages Feed

It is set to on. In the Twitterfeed article you can find an explanation in 'Twitterfeed: Advanced Settings': so you don't 'mess it up'.
One thing to add - you could pick a few authors that post articles that fit your Twitter profile. That is acceptable. As long as everyone doesn't create exactly the same list.

Things I Love About Wizzley: No Hubpages Bull

Mike, that little delete button has major consequences that should be thought through before it is pressed. Each of my articles there has matured, they have time on their side, they have links coming in to them, they have feeds associated with them in every sydication site imaginable, they are within Twitterfeed and other RSS feeds, they link out to relevant of my others works and websites. Each one that is deleted, or unpublished has a knock on effect on all my other properties. It also has a number of effects on Hubpages that they do not seem to realize. As each hub is unpublished, then deleted, the whole community is affected. A mass exodus cuts the links and the site is seen as a wounded animal. That has a knock-on effect on my articles. And so it goes on. Once wounded, and patched up temporarily, with inconsequential bandages, the end will come, but it is a big beast, so will take time to pass it's mortal coil.

Things I Love About Wizzley: Fan Pages Feed

Yes, Thanks for clearing that up! One question however, where is the yes for referral link thing? Wouldn't want to mess that up...;(
Be well...

Container Gardening For Vegetables

A lack of sun in my yard may make container gardening something I will need to do. If the pots are on wheels, I can move them around to keep them in the sun.

Things I Love About Wizzley: Fan Pages Feed

@teddletonmr Mike you have cottoned on to the whole deal. Using Twitterfeed to promote other peoples work is a good way to show that you are not just tweeting for your own benefit (in the scenario you have seen that benefit would accrue to the Wizzley community, and therefore by association the individual also). This is good for reputation in the twittersphere, you will gain kudos and followers, accordingly. Wizzley will gain in reputation and backlinks will appear against articles within Wizzley and therefore improve both it's and our reputation with search engine algorithms. The good thing is that you can tweet your own articles over and over again in this plan and they will not be seen as over promotional to your followers. They will be used to getting a lot of good stuff from your account. Your tweets may get lost in the quantity but Twitter is not just about Tweeps following the links. It is about websites linking to the URL's that they find there. And anyway, getting visits from tweeps rarely ends with a profitable click.
However, there is a flaw with the process if EVERYONE adopts the approach you have deduced, in the same way. I would suggest that, if you are considering using best authors, that you do not, as the posts will be diverse and not always related to your profile with your followers. It would be much better for you and the community if each person considered the subject area that relates to the things they tweet about and chose one or more of the category feeds to post through TF. That way the whole site gets promoted and it is not seen as though everybody is promoting the same article(s), all at the same time.
Diversity is the name of the game at the macro level (the Wizzley community), similarity at the micro level (your Twitter account).
And yes, each tweet has a referral link should you set it up properly, you have to say yes to it being added, and you can add an extra one in by using the Suffix - this could be a link to YOUR website or something similar (not the same URL already attached).
Have I explained that to your satisfaction?
Use Twitterfeed - yes, use 'best authors' - no, use a category feed instead - yes.

How To Draw A Beatle Bug

Wow this makes it much simpler to draw something more than a straight line of which I have a hard time drawing. ;)
Great fun, thanks for sharing the tips. Mike

Selecting the best vegetable garden site

Finding enough sun to plant a garden at my new home will be a challenge for me. A small yard and lots of very tall trees doesn't help, but I will have a vegetable garden!!! I may do some container gardening as well.

Things I Love About Wizzley: No Hubpages Bull

When the good times come to their end, and it seems as though they have at __. At the end of the day the power is yours to act upon, That little Delete this Hub button, not something pleasant to be sure. Just the propper tool for a bad relationship.
Focus on the positive, thanks for sharing your words of optimism ...:)

Things I Love About Wizzley: Fan Pages Feed

Humm, the first thing that crossed my mind. I read another page written by humagaia, why tweet.
Twitter feed and the RSS of favorite writers here at wizzley will go a long way to promote the whole site with our twitter followers, yes?
Promote wizzley, each tweet has a referral link attached to it, yes?
If I understand how it all works, finding and using the favorites RSS and twitterfeed is a good thing for writers here at wizzley.
If I may share this without affending,

just trying to add to the conversation.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention,
Be well, Mike

Why I Don't Do Keyword Research

In my case I try to combine my interests with keyword research. I mean I am looking at keyword research from the point of 'what kind of information are people looking for'. I stay away from keywords I have no idea about because a) I couldn't write useful content for it and b) I would be soon bored to death ;-) But even when I know a topic really well I am still surprised to discover some new aspects of it that people are looking for. I also tend to avoid things that everybody is writing about, i.e. that have a high competition, here is where the keyword research for long-tails comes in that Lissie mentioned. But in the end it all boils down to do what works best for yourself, your site and / or the site you are writing on.

Keyword Researcher Review

It is also worth mentioning that the free version of the tool provides already more keywords to write about then, at least I, have time. Keyword Researcher is a great tool, seems to me that the developer is giving away far too much in his free version!
As for competition, here I differ a bit, if I find a keyword with low competition, I take that any time over one that has a too high one. But I do agree with your point that 'those 0 searches' do add up nicely ;-) I am having an article else where for a keyword that Google claims has <50 searches per month, but I get >800 unique visitors from exactly this keyword. So, in the end, it is again back to 'using the software between ones ears' and testing things out ...
