How IVF Works?

Invitro Fertilization Techniques

Happy FamilyIn vitro fertilization is the technique that makes it possible for conception to occur outside the women's body. Some associated procedures are also part of IVF.

OVR or Transvaginal ovum retrieval is a technique to collect the fluid containing the ova.

Embryo transfer is here an embryo planted into the uterus to enable pregnancy.

AZH - Assisted zona hatching (AZH) is performed before the embryo transfer.  The surrounding layer of the ova is punctured for the embryo to hatch out. This is employed to aid the implantation of the embryo.

ICSI - Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) employed in case of a male suffering from low sperm counts A single sperm is injected into the center of an egg using a micro-needle. In ICSI a donor sperm can also be used whence the parent is not able to produce good quality sperm.

Cytoplasmic transfer here the contents of a fertile egg is injected into the infertile one along with the sperm.

Autologous endometrial coculture is used in case of poor embryo quality. The fertilized eggs are placed on top of a layer of cells on the uterine lining to assist embryo development.

ZIFT - In zygote intrafallopian transfer here egg cells are fertilized in the clinic facility; the zygote is then transferred to the fallopian tube.

Egg & Sperm donations from healthy men and women are often relied upon in IVF procedures.

GIFT In gamete intrafallopian transfer a mix of sperm and eggs are placed directly into a woman's fallopian tubes. This is achieved by using laparoscopy post transvaginal ovum retrieval.

PGD - Preimplantation genetic diagnosis is a genetic screening mechanism to help identify genetically malformed embryos.

Reproductive surgery is resorted to treat. fallopian tube and vas deferens obstruction.

SSR - In surgical sperm retrieval the sperms are obtained from vas deferens or epididymis or from the testis.

Children born using assisted reproduction process may have proclivity towards genetic disorders but such instances are rare.

Since there is no other way for achieving conception IVF techniques are used. These are much required procedures to enable men and women to achieve much desired parenthood.

I do not think any genetic disorder is associated with those born through assisted reproduction.
