Butterfly Baby Shower Ideas

There are several ways to decorate with butterflies. You can use tissue paper, pipe cleaner, and other simple crafting materials to create butterflies of different colors, shapes, and size. You can also use cardboard to help hold the bigger butterflies up.

You can make some butterfly placeholders by using clay that is pressed out. Stamp the clay to get your butterfly design. Sprinkle with glitter before adding a special glue-like agent that will give the clay a shiny look after it is baked. Once it has baked in a 275-degree oven for twenty minutes, you can add a wooden stand to the back. Now your name cards can sit between the wooden stand and the butterfly. You can use any color clay so for a baby shower you may want to use a pink, blue, yellow, or green.

If you prefer to buy your decorations rather than make them, check out your local party supply shop.  Butterflies are popular for birthday parties and baby showers so you should be able to find something.  If not, look online and don't forget to look at bridal shower shops as well because they sell wedding butterfly decorations like silk butterflies that are often just as suitable for baby showers.

When it comes to food for the baby shower, you have tons of great options.  If you are hosting a garden party, you may want to consider hosting a butterfly tea party where you simply serve items that a fancy hotel would at afternoon tea such as cucumber and roast beef finger sandwiches and tons of bite sized pastries and desserts.  Use teapots and tea cups from your collection or buy some at a local thrift shop to finish off the decor.  A nice touch would be large pots of hydrangeas with silk butterfly picks as centerpieces on the table.  And give your guests little personalized baby shower tea favors to take home and enjoy after the party.

Have craft time during the shower. If mom wants to decorate the nursery in butterflies, you can find wooden butterflies that everyone can paint and decorate that attended the shower. Each butterfly can be unique and individual and mom will have a story to go with each butterfly that is hung on the wall. You can also have the guests to write one word on their butterfly, for example, “Believe”. Words of wisdom from guests will go a long way. You can also have your guests make stain glass sun catchers to help catch the sun.

For the baby shower games, go with some of the traditional ones like baby shower bingo or word scrambles.  All of these printable type games are available online for affordable prices.  For the game prizes, tie them into the theme.  Things like butterfly design cookies, butterfly lollipops, small potted plants embellished with butterfly stickers or silk butterflies are great ideas to give to the game winners.

If Mom is expecting a baby girl, chances are that she'll need lots of cute clothes to dress the sweet little girl in so think about giving baby blankets, clothing like onesies, diaper covers, hooded bath towels, or even full layette sets that feature a butterfly motif.  Tons of stores sell these patterned items since it is a popular design for the summer and spring.

Consider getting a baby girl gift basket or diaper cake that features a butterfly theme like the one shown to the right.  Normally the basket or cake will incorporate many of the clothing items that I mentioned above.  As an added bonus, you can use the gift basket or diaper cake as both the centerpiece and as your baby shower gift for Mom.

When it comes to baby shower favors, you have tons of options.  If you like to bake, consider buying a large butterfly-shaped cookie cutter and make your own butterfly brownies or sugar cookies.  Place them inside clear or flower-covered cellophane treat bags and tie them with a matching ribbon.  You can even add a personalized hang tag with Mom's name and the shower date.  Alternatively, you could buy cookie cutters to hand out to the guests as favors....these are always a big hit.  Finally, you can find all kinds of butterfly favors online.  Things like lemonade mixes, compact mirrors, key chains, lip balms and more that have a butterfly motif.  The possibilities are truly endless.
