Central India remote and confined is full of tourism potential and sightseeing enthralls. Wildlife tourism is the mainstay of the State with the tiger as a targeted animal.

Central India now known as the States of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh is an ancient land more popular for its forests and wilderness. The state has a large number of protected areas that harbor the endangered tiger. Age-old monuments and places of natural beauty offer much more to the tourists who arrive here in large numbers. Internationally popular destinations are Khajuraho Temple City, Kanha and Bandhavgarh National Park, and Pachmarhi Hill Resort.

Ancient History & Natural Palaces

Tribal Priests Marble Rocks BoatingThe most popular temples of yore in Central India are the Khajuraho Temples. They are situated in the District of Chattarpur in the city of Khajuraho near Panna National Park. A journey into the deep interiors offers two benefits. Visiting temples built in the 10th Century AD with erotic carvings and a tiger safari at Panna.  

Gwalior Fort and Palace built by Syndhiya's the erstwhile rulers of Gwalior the fort is massive with impressive architecture and carvings. The palace at Gwalior is home to the erstwhile rulers but a section is open to visitors that contain a museum and a dining hall with massive chandeliers, an impressive dining table with a toy train as a server, and palatial decor with exquisite embellishments.

Indore is the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh. Places worth a visit are the Holkar Palace also known as Rajwada, Lal Badh Palace, and Annapurna Temple.      

Maheshwar on Narmada is famous as a spiritual destination and for its saris. The fort and the temples are worth a visit.    

Mandu is popularly known as a fort city due to ancient monuments of historic importance. The destination is also popular as a resort with extensive greenery.  

Orchha another scenic resort ideal for holiday contains ancient monuments in form of palaces and temples. Worth a visit to see the ancient architecture in remote and pristine settings.

Raipur is the Capital City but offers a wonderful stay in this ancient land. Besides business and trade, the city abounds in eateries, places of interest, and ancient monuments. Places worth a visit are the parks and temples some of which are historical. Places of interest nearby are Amarkantak Hill Resort, Sanjay Tiger Reserve, Achanakmar Tiger Reserve, and Ghatarani Water Falls. 

Bastar District is dominated by tribal civilization with a unique culture. It is a picturesque district and is home to Indravati Nationa Park ideal for sighting tigers and wild water buffalo. Renowned for its natural beauty sightseeing offers visits to temples, caves, palaces, and splendorous waterfalls.

Khajuraho TempleCenotaphsMadhya Pradesh has sound tourism infrastructure around the popular destinations, In the case of remote less visited places advance booking of rest houses and food has to be made. The roads to most of the destinations are good but banking facilities, markets, and access to health care may be available at the nearest big town.

Hotel accommodations in MP at popular places are excellent but one will need to book rest houses belong to the forest department or the PWD. Wildlife resorts at tiger reserves like Kanha, Bandhavgarh is well equipped for a stay for tiger safari.

Chhattisgarh at many places contains proper facilities for tourism. Parks like Sanjay Dubri, Achanakmar, Indravati, Kanha National Park near Mandla and Bandhavgarh are accessible from Raipur city. In order to travel from Chhattisgarh, Raipur hotels are ideal for accommodation. In remote regions rest houses belonging to the forest department and PWD provide accommodation but advance booking is required.
