Tired of the same look to your Christmas Tree every year? Why not do something different this year and use one of these Christmas Tree Decorating Themes to make a real statement.

If you are looking for some new and exciting Christmas Tree Decorating Themes this year then you have come to exactly the right place!

Christmas really is the time of year to brush up on your decorating skills. Because most people choose to decorate their Christmas trees with traditional things, you can help set your Christmas tree apart from others' by choosing a really creative decorating theme. Being creative will take you a little bit more time than usual but it won't necessarily cost you any extra money.

So let's take a look at what you can do and how to make your Christmas Tree stand out from the crowd this year.

Try Out an Arctic Animal Theme

A Novel Christmas Tree Decorating Idea

Decorating your Christmas tree with polar bear, walrus, and seal stuffed animals will help create an interestingly themed tree that is likely to catch the attention of guests. Try to find stuffed animals that are small enough to avoid putting too much downward pressure on branches but large enough to be easily noticed.

You can also enhance your arctic animal themed tree by hanging plastic icicles on it. Plastic icicle Christmas tree ornaments are very cheap and available from lots of different suppliers.

Alternatively, you can make your own plastic icicle Christmas tree ornaments by cutting up clear plastic bottles. If you really don't have a lot of money to spend on Christmas tree ornaments for your Christmas tree decorating themes, this is a great way to cut costs without feeling like you can't make your Christmas tree beautiful.

Experiment With a Nutcracker Theme

The Nutcracker ballet is a staple of Christmastime and makes a great theme for decorating Christmas trees. Lots of Nutcracker themed figurines and ornaments are already available, so you will not have to spend a lot of time making decorations on your own.

Try to get decorations for all the major characters in the Nutcracker. You will want figurines for Clara, the Nutcracker, and the Mouse King, among others.

If you really want to make your own decorations, you can try sculpting your own figurines out of clay. Try to use some of the newer polymer clay that can be baked easily in the oven. This clay is a lot easier to work with and available in a much broader variety of colors than traditional kinds of clay.

Go With a Hot Chocolate and Marshmallow Theme

One of The Great Christmas Tree Decorating Themes

Everybody loves a nice mug of hot chocolate and marshmallows around Christmastime. A hot chocolate and marshmallow themed tree is a great conversation starter and will probably be remembered for years.

You can hang plastic mugs on the tree for the hot chocolate. Fill each mug with brown-colored foam so that it has the appearance of being full of hot chocolate. If you have difficulty finding brown-colored foam in your area, you can spray paint chunks of Styrofoam brown and glue them inside the mugs.

Next, purchase some very large cotton balls. These will be your marshmallows. You can thread a string through a bunch of them to create some lovely marshmallow Christmas tree ornaments.

Alternatively, if you want, you can use real marshmallows. Try and purchase the jumbo ones instead of the mini or normal sized ones, but if you want, you can experiment with using different sizes.

If you decide to use marshmallows instead of cotton balls, it's up to you whether or not you use colored marshmallows or plain white ones. Plain white marshmallows have the advantage of being traditional, but colored marshmallows tend to be more eye catching.

Mixing and Matching Different Themes for Your Christmas Theme

There are endless possibilities when it comes to coming up with your own Christmas tree decorating themes or experimenting with the themes of others. One thing you should keep in mind to help prevent your designs from having too chaotic of a look is to practice visualizing in your mind's eye what your Christmas tree will look like with all the decorations you are thinking about putting on it before you actually decorate it.

This will help you to create aesthetically pleasing designs that don't cause people to grimace when they look at them. Some people make the mistake of assuming that the more decorations they put on their tree, the more likely it is that people will admire their tree. Unfortunately, this just isn't true.

As you gain experience with using different themes and creating your own designs, you will start to get a feel for which decorations go best with which themes. Take your time and have fun creating your themed Christmas tree.

One of my very favorite items for the Christmas tree is a cheap string of icicle garland I found years ago. It twinkles and reflects the lights beautifully! Thank you for the idea of adding arctic animals to the decorations--how fun!

@WordChazer Oh I love the idea of Pudsey Bear as your tree topper - that's wonderful LOL

Polar bears! I adore them! I have a white Christmas tree which I decorate with bright tinsel and a mix of glittery and shiny baubles then my polar bear and teddy bear ornaments including my Pudsey bear tree topper. I also have a selection of music-based ornaments - notes, clefs, instruments. Two things you will never find on my tree are lights and fairies.
