Exotic Peacock Decor - Decorate a Peacock Themed Room

by Digby_Adams

Long, colorful and graceful peacock feathers and plumes guarantee that any peacock themed room will showcase your decorating talent

You can quickly and affordable create the ambience of peacock decor. The easiest way to do this is to include peacock figurines in prominent places in a particular room. It's also not as expensive as you might think. My husband, Matt, and I are in the midst of renovating a 19th Century Maine farmhouse that use to be owned by a merchant sea captain. I did some research and found out that he had made several trips to the Orient. So as we work on rooms, I try and come up with some exotic decorating ideas that might have been inspired by his seafaring adventures. I have to admit that I had a hard time convincing Matt that peacock decor would look great in "his" library. But as the room took shape even he voice his enthusiasm.

I placed a very large Victorian sofa that I found at a thrift shop in front of the fireplace and then put to end tables on each end. Then I went online and found two different but similar flamboyant peacock figures and put them on each side of the sofa.

Voila! Instant peacock decor! Now when you start with large extravagant pieces such as the above peacock figures, you have to be careful how you add more peacock home accessories. Many of the others should be more muted. They should also probably not be figurines to keep the room interesting.

Well the room is a library and we will have several vintage bookcases that we've found at yard sales and thrift shops. So I'll tuck some books on a shelf and hold them in place with some peacock bookends. The ones to the right would certainly fit the bill. They are much more muted than the figurines with jewel tones and green against mahogany. They measure 7 5/8" x 3 7/8" x 6" high. I love the antique-like design. I'm confident that at first it won't be obvious what folks are looking at. Then gradually they'll start to hunt for different peacocks scattered around the room.

Peacock Bookends

Peacock vases are another way - perhaps more subtle - to include peacock decor in your home accessories. I say more subtle, because usually the vase in not shaped like a peacock. More commonly the peacock design is painted on the vase. Often these will have an Oriental flair to them, but not always.

I love to layer complex and ornate pieces. So it would not be unheard of for me to put a peacock vase filled with flowers right next to a book display held up with peacock bookends. Especially if the bookends were metal and the vase ceramic. They would be different enough that they wouldn't clash.

Interesting home decor can often be an ice breaker at a party when people don't know each other. Peacocks are much safer conversational pieces than politics!

Japanese Peacock Vases

If you've got more vases, bookends and figurines than you've got space for and you really want to add some peacock decor to a room, then try adding a few peacock pillows to the mix. In fact if you're full up on pillows, you can order a peacock pillow cover. That way you can take an existing pillow and recover it. If you've never done this, it's something you should consider. The covers are easily stored and you can change them out for holidays or seasons - or if you just get bored with the same old throw pillows.

While many of the peacock pillows show the entire peacock, others just use peacock feathers as their design inspiration.

Peacock Pillows

Whimsical Peacock Pillow

Colorful Peacock Decor

You'll find the whimsical peacock pillow to the right on Zazzle. It includes lime green, pink, and purple. If you have a blah sofa or chair in a plain color, just toss this 20-inch throw pillow in it's corner. It will be an instant home decor pick-me-up.

This throw pillow features not one, but two colorful peacocks. A lime peacock is located in the lower right corner. You can see all of his beautiful purple feathers. The pink peacock is in the upper left corner. You can just see his head. Peacock feathers make up the background.

There are also a lot of options for peacock decor for bedrooms. You'll find gorgeous sheets and comforters and lots of feminine peacock home accents.

Hera is the wife of Zeus and one of the oldest gods portrayed in the Greek Pantheon. Hera is shown here confidently striding beside a peacock, one of her major symbols from Greek legends. Because of its beauty and literary and historical roots, I'd definitely put this statue in the library. It measures 9.5 inches tall by 7 inches wide. It would look fantastic on the fireplace mantle or on the bookcase. (I'm not sure how Matt would feel about a Greek goddess on his desk.) The bronze like finish definitely gives Hera Old World charm. Since she is the focus of the statue and not the peacock, it would be a subtle home peacock accessory. Although very sexy!

And I say, hey, there's a little bit of Hera in every woman, we might not be able to strut beside a peacock, but we can wear our peacock earrings!

Peacocks are the most beautiful creatures alive in my opinion. I never would have thought of using this decorating style. What a great idea.

I love peacock colors. They are my favorite. I once painted my kitchen a peacock teal. I have peacock feathers in a huge vase in our family room. It really sets the room off with it's vibrant colors. Great idea for an article too.
