Final Thoughts From The Pretty Little Liars Episode "New Guys, New Lies"

by StevenHelmer

Thoughts from the season 6 television episode that first aired February 2, 2016.

Synopsis: Realizing she is about to be caught in another lie, Hanna (Ashley Benson) decides she wants to come clean while Aria (Lucy Hale) decides to sneak into Ezra's (Ian Harding) apartment to find evidence of his innocence or guilt and, instead, begins to suspect her dad (Chad Lowe) might be involved in Charlotte's (Vanessa Ray) murder.

I Don't Think Byron is Hiding What Aria Thinks He's Hiding

Aria's dad is sneaking around Rosewood suspiciously, has been avoiding her and was apparently involved in something Ezra witnessed. But, I'm fairly confident it wasn't murder.

Instead, I think he's in another torrid relationship with somebody and, judging by the sneaking around, it's someone he doesn't want anybody knowing about. Perhaps its one of the PLLs' moms. Or, knowing he's into younger women, maybe he's seeing Mona (Janel Parrish) or Alison (Sasha Pieterse).

One other possibility is he's trying to reconcile with his estranged wife (Holly Marie Combs) and he didn't want Aria to find out right away.

I'm Also Going to Reluctantly Rule Out Toby, At Least for Now

It's not that I had a sudden change of heart and don't believe Toby (Keegan Allen) is capable of murder. I also am not convinced he's not still obsessed with Spencer (Troian Bellisario) despite nearly being engaged. Instead, it's more because he was in the room with the PLLs (at least I think he was) when the new "A" made an appearance in disguise. So, unless this is a team effort, I'll clear him for now.

Speaking of Spencer

I'm not convinced her relationship with Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) is going to work out. She seems to be guilt ridden over it both because of Toby and Hanna and I think that is going to ultimately cause it to have issues. Plus, not only is Toby obviously not OK with it, I'm not convinced Hanna is either.

Am I the Only One Who Thinks Hanna's New Man is a Little Too Perfect?

Let's list off what we know about Jordan (David Coussins) so far. He's handsome, he's rich and he loves Hanna so much, he's willing to call an attorney to help her stay out of jail rather question her decision to tamper with evidence and lie to the police.

Either she found the perfect guy. Or, he's not what he seems. And, given what we know about this series, I'm going to go with the latter.

The thing that comes to mind for me when I think of Jordan is Charlotte/CeCe Drake traveled a lot and it's very possible her killer might be someone from outside of Rosewood or the PLLs new tormentor might be one of her friends from outside of town. Either way, a boyfriend that is absolutely perfect but we know very little about would be a perfect person for that, especially if that boyfriend also had a private jet and could fly in virtually undetected whenever he wanted.

I also couldn't help but notice the new "A" has a very nice car that apparently has a chauffeur. The only two characters I've seen so far with that kind of money are Jordan and/or Lucas (Brendan Robinson).

I Don't Fault Ashley for Trying to Help Her Daughter. But...

Did Hanna's mom (Laura Leighton) need to bring the stolen backup security footage into the house with her? I know Hanna put her in a bad spot and she may have felt the need to protect her daughter once again. However, keeping the footage with her and bringing it into the house just seems like something that is destined to backfire. What if the police decide there's enough evidence to issue a search warrant of the house? Or, what if "A" decides to break in and steal the tape?

The first thing she should have done after getting that tape is destroy it. You can't tell me there wasn't a lake she could have tossed it into or she didn't have time to throw it into a fire. And, I'm confident her decision is going to come back to haunt her.

Final Opinion

I'm still not convinced the show is really doing anything more than re-using the same old material it has used for the past few years. But, I will admit the mystery is getting a little more interesting as potential suspects are added or ruled out. While I'm hoping the show won't stay on the air much more past its welcome, I'm still curious to see who killed Charlotte.
