Step 1) Start by printing your free template which is further down this page or you can draw out your own design to use if you prefer. Draw around the smaller flip flop template onto patterned scrapbook paper and cut out. I choose one with hot summer shades of oranges, pinks, sky blues and a touch of green.
To add stability to the paper, you might want to stick it onto some thicker cardstock. I do this and then leave a small border around the edges when I cut it out with scissors. Mark where the holes for the straps need to go and punch them out with a hole punch.
Step 2) Choose some ribbon or cord that will work well as your flip flop straps. You need a long length which will be enough for the straps as well as a loop at the top to hang your design. Fold the ribbon in half and push it through the top hole of your flip flop. I use pointed tweezers to push it through. Make a loop at the top which is big enough to hang from your door.
Step 3) Once the loop at the top is made, push the ends of the ribbon into their allocated slots. The left ribbon needs to be pushed into the left hole and the right one into the right. Give enough slack so the ribbon makes curved shapes just like straps would normally do. Tape, glue or tie the ends of the ribbon at the back of your project.
