And unrelated to all of this kerfuffle about Squidoo and writing online in general, the founder of the system of yoga I practice and teach, B.K.S. Iyengar, died yesterday at the age of 95. I am so much more affected emotionally by his passing than with the upheaval on Squidoo. My mind is 100 miles away from writing at the moment :-)
I'm so very sorry to hear of your loss. Did you know him personally or respect him from afar?
I didn't know him personally, but spent time around him on three different occasions, including studying at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune, India for a month a few years ago. He wasn't teaching classes then, except for the therapeutic classes, but he was often doing his own practice in the back of the room where we had classes, and during the open practice times. There are so many good articles out about him now, in remembrance of his life. He was truly a remarkable human being.

...and to add to the joy! Zujava have had their Amazon account closed
What a blow to Zujava!
Oh good.
That means I don't have to worry about writing there as everything I have there is on hold anyway because I never finished the third article to have myself edited and let out of the novices' pen. I'll just move everything here and delete my account there forthwith.
But it's sad for the Zujava people. I know that Marie was doing well there. :( Because I'm well out of the loop here, what's that mean for them in real terms? Is it game over for Zujava and everyone there coming here, or a blip that will be an insignificant memory this time next month?
And while I'm catching up on the gossip - is Squidoo properly over? No more Squidoo, or still there, but now owned by Hubcaps?
My contribution to the mix is that I think Suite have started paying authors again (it's a little vague, based on reading the new infrastructure notes rather than any official announcement). But my stats there are still bobbling around the bottom of the chart.
Meanwhile my Wizzley ones have been soaring sharply upwards, over the past two or three months, with no hint of abating. It's been going on too long now to be a fluke.
And Bubblews went splodge back in April, but since the update has been rising again. Splodge being a technical, mathematical term for income graph lines going in the wrong direction.
Right now, all my bets are on Wizzley for long, well researched, evergreen articles; and Bubblews for short, chatty blog-type posts, or amusing/interesting And In Other News type stories. With an option on Suite for my stuff about the Porajmos, as the rest of that is already there. Sound like an almost businesslike plan?

Then it sounds like it's not so much your loss, but a loss for us all. Therefore I'm doubly sorry to hear of it.

As far as I know Writedge and Daily Two Cents allow any affiliate links. Amazon is just more trusted by everyone else because it's well know but I have affiliate links for other sites within my articles on both sites. You are limited on the affiliate links though. Up to 5 on Writedge depending on the number of words and up to 2 in Daily Two Cents (again, depending on word count).

From my understanding, it's game over. All the top lenses will be moved to HubPages and then the rest will be gone forever (along with Squidoo) from October...not sure of the date.
I've not looked into Suite since I got all my content off there. I'm glad I made that move because I've made more money with it on other sites than it ever made on Suite for the year and half that I was there. Bubblews has seemed to pick up since the upgrade. There haven't been as many outages as before, which definitely helps.
It sounds like a good plan, Jo. If you find that Suite isn't for you or you want to add another site at any time, I'd recommend Writedge. I really think you'll do well earning from that site--and its sister site Daily Two Cents--and no Google AdSense needed.

I must admit to some sadness at the demise of Squidoo - despite the way things have been handled of late I owe a lot to the site, it gave me a lot of opportunities, I leant a lot, I made good friends and it has helped me develop new skills.
HubPages never fired my imagination in the same way but I am allowing my content to be moved there and am already starting to get a feel for the place and the people.
Zujava's demise (and that is how I see it) is sad because it had so much potential. But I have removed all my content from there - circa 28 pages from memory. I feel sorry for those who had invested so much there without seeing the return that it could have delivered.
Going forward I will be going with Wizzley, HubPages and a wide range of my own site and that will be it!

I haven't made much money from my articles since being kicked off Suite but it did give me the grounding to expand my freelance empire, where I have made some pennies. I'm tempted to sign up for Writedge at some point and/or DailyTwoCents but I'm on PersonaPaper and Bubblews for the shorter articles anyway. I'm looking forward to spending time reworking some of my old content from Suite to update it as we revisit places I wrote about on there before. I've also just closed my Zujava account and will shortly (maybe this weekend) put the two articles I had saved over there up here. I may also replace my Wizzography with the more up to date one I had on Zujava too. That'll add new topics to my portfolio here.
Described by one of my clients as 'a literary grammarian', writing, researching and reading are requirements for sanity, at least this side of the keyboard.

Yup, I just happened to choose 3 weeks for a vacation (with the added bonus of really limited Internet access) as the 3 weeks of the whole year where Squidoo closes and Amazon decide to terminate their account with Zujava!
Right now, I am just so thankful that Wizzley has carried on being as stable and dependable as ever. Thank goodness. One less thing to worry over right now.
I'm letting my Squidoo lenses transfer over to HP. I don't know how that will go but I already have a small, token HP account and it has never really grabbed me and made me want to write there much. So it may happen that some of my original Squid stuff will eventually make their way over to Wizzley - certainly I have a lot of craft pages which would actually match up with my existing content here. So that makes sense long term.
With Zujava, some of my articles promote Zazzle products and I also have a lot of craft pages that rarely make sales - so those, at least, are largely unaffected. Long term, I don't know what will happen. I really hope it manages to find another method of monetizing and stick around. So sad seeing sites go belly up.
Anyway, the upshot again is that this illustrates why diversifying online is a good thing. I feel especially sorry for people who just relied on one of those sites since they may now be worrying a lot about what to do.
I will roll my sleeves up and carry on as best I can.
For Wizzley, I should think it is good news as it will surely gain some very good new writers here. Always a silver lining somewhere :)
