I've had my first cheque off Amazon!  I'm so excited!  Being British, I had to wait until I'd accrued over $100 to receive.   I went way beyond that, but pretty much all at once.

If I didn't really need to cash it, I'd be framing it!

Wow Jo, that is awesome!  Enjoy - you have worked hard for it!!

Thank you!

And I just realised that I missed Brl's book announcement.  Congrats Brl!

Congratulations! Make a self-portrait with cheque in hand as a souvenir before cashing it in! SY

That's fantastic, Jo! Sam's right -- take that photo!

I had some good news a couple of weeks ago, too, though because I've been dealing with some serious health issues, I haven't taken the time to sing my own praises. . .

I won first prize in Poetry in the Kootenay Literary Contest, sponsored by our local literary society. It involved a big check, too. I have yet to publish a book of my poetry, but if I can't get a book deal rather soon, I may go the way I did with my children's books and publish it myself. Life is too short not to share with the world. The only problem is, it's hard to market a book you've published yourself. People raise their eyebrows to say the least. Though I must say, that I've gotten very positive responses from the people who have actually read my children's books.

I've felt too weak to make a big push on readings, etc., though that was what I had planned to do.

Wrong, at least in my experience! Nobody cares how you published a book as long as it is good! To give you a heads-up, my self-published book sold last month 127 times on Amazon.de, not enough to retire on, but certainly not bad! Feel free to hit me up for some tips, SY

Congratulations on winning first prize Sheilamarie.  I'm happy to hear you won a big check along with the recognition... whoo hoo..  Surprised

Sorry to hear you are not well.  I hope and pray that you will be up and feeling better soon and can start that promoting you are hoping to do.

Congratulations Sheilamarie!  That is a great honor.  I do hope that you feel better soon.  You need to get out and spend that moneyMoney Mouth

I so wish that I could get my mother to become just a little more computer literate so that she could start publishing some of her poems on places like Wizzley or Hubpages etc.  If for no other reason than to hopefully get positive comments from readers.  I think it would make her realize how good her poetry is and inspire her to write more of it.

While I am here on this thread I thought I would mention that I actually almost made $100 in Amazon sales for 2012.  OK... I know that is not all that great BUT I was surprised and proud of myself for even doing that much.  All things considered.... the biggest being my "newbieness" (don't think that is a word) with this whole online writing thing and having less than 100 articles published with Amazon products.  I have been "on break" for awhile and been trying to catch up with everything over the past few weeks.  I just got to looking at those reports yesterday.  I will say that it did inspire me to want to do more writing.  Especially here on Wizzley and my own blogs.

@ Angel - $100 is a great incentive to keep writing.  I hope the sales continue to climb for you! Cool

It's a great feeling, isn't it?  It means that everything is going in the right direction.

Will we get a photo from you too, when you get that coveted first cheque?

Jo-

I have been getting that money deposited directly into my bank account every month.  I had seen deposits here and there but had not really paid attention to the total amount until I took a look at the reports. That money is long gone!!  Oh well....more to be made.

I'm tickled pink.

Finally - I published my first Kindle e-book!

It contains funny anecdotes and favorite recipes from my years as an Alaska lodge chef.

WooHoo, Chef! I've been wanting to try the Kindle e-book route, but haven't got my act together yet. How did you find the process?

I'm off to check your link. Congratulations!

Big, big congratulations! Off to check it out now! SY

Oh, $8.46 for only 37 pages /(estimated) that seems a bit overpriced ;-( SY
