Our Wizzley author Sam recommended that I check out Scrivener, a writing software that helps you with all kinds of things, including the final formatting for Kindle (.mobi). I bought it and then started my project with it. Scrivener has a pretty steep learning curve, and that took up most of my time during the 3 weeks production period. However, you don't need Scrivener. There's other free software available for that final step.

Once I had everything together - the uploading and finalization on Amazon was a breeze.

Thanks, Sam. I don't know what you're seeing, though. I posted it for $4.99

Amazon adjusts the prices depending for where you are coming from. So for me, in Europe, it shows up as 8.46 but when I check it with pagewash.com it is indeed 4.99. Still a lot for a 37 pages book. If you like to hear my opinion, here is what I would do:

Reduce the price to 2.99 until you have some reviews under your belt and have gained a bit of traction.

When the print and the Kindle edition have synchronized finally (you do a print edition via Createspace, don't you?) raise the price a bit AND THEN do a free Kindle book promo for two days.

Join goodreads.com, get your author page there and engage with readers, do a free giveaway to market your book.

Go local, find some old friend in Alaska, perhaps in that lodge you worked in?, send him some print copies to sell locally to get the word out.

Play around with prices until you hit the sweet spot.

Great advice, Sam ... thanks! I'll print it out.  Smile

Yeah, I'm working on a print edition, just wanted to get the Kindle version out. It's so much fun to see yourself on Amazon!

If you read the description - I'm giving away a recipe that made me thousands of dollars. That's why I thought $4.99 is okay. I will even publish another book about that recipe, with business tips etc.

Well, let's see what happens. Lots of work to do.

For a book like this, judging by its description, your target audience is NOT somebody that wants to make money in the food industry. It is the armchair traveler that enjoys a good story with some recipes thrown in, think "It Can't Always Be Caviar by Johannes Mario Simmel".

If you like, you can send me the pdf and / or the mobi file and I give you a more detailed feedback ;-) SY

Congrats Chef -

So proud of you!

I WILL do this someday - and when I'm ready, Sam is who I'm hiring for an hour session of training (of course, if Sam will accept!).

I envision seeing you staring at the stats for those last three visitors. Unfortunately, none of us would be "unique," as we've all visited before, or else as the third responder to your thread I'd tip the scales! Heck, I'll go visit one of your wizzles right now just for fun.

Congratulations, brl!

Thank you all for your kind responses to my book announcement.  Smile

I lowered the price to $2.99 (the new price will be shown tomorrow; right now it's still at $4.99))

First I took a bow before your amazing achievement, Sam.

When I came back up, however, I was standing right under nightowl's jaw ...
