Adsense v Chitika

I posted this article a couple of days ago:

http://wizzley.com/the-naked-rambler-bbc-one-looks-at-britain-s-famous-naturist/

Not surprisingly, the Google ads disappeared from it. But today I noticed some Chitika ads appearing. As I wasn't registered with Chitika, I quickly did so but when I put my username in settings it wouldn't let me saying" "Google AdSense and Chitika can not be used simultaneously." But I am not trying to use them simultaneously, I just want them both in my settings so I can get income from the Chitika ads when used. What do I do?

As far as I'm concerned, Steve, Google Ads are a waste of my space. I've switched over to Chitika and Amazon here, as I have earned sweet FA from Google in the time I've been here because I write far more about UK items than their beloved US stuff.

You can't have both Google and Chitika, that's clearly stated in the Wizzley T&Cs.

I wonder whether you (and Rupert too, given some of his content) might not be better going across to Chitika as the great Google gods are so easily offended by mention of nudity, because of the negative connotations in conservative areas of America. Whereas any Brit knows that the true eccentrics, such as the Naked Rambler, are highly likely to be Brits.

Jo Harrington has made a tidy sum on here from Chitika, so perhaps ask her when she's back from her camping trip and back online again.

I would also add that I'm still hoping for a co.uk home in the Wizzley family for us Brits in due course so we can at least use our Amazon.co.uk affiliation for adverts showing in £.

I admit I don't understand how AdSense works. I posted an article on a park in Bucharest and got ads about a place in China and then now about metallurgical products. I know Google tailors the advertising to one's own searching as well, but I haven't searched for any of that. If that's the advertising other people get as well, it's no wonder there are so few clicks.

I might switch to Chitika soon, too.

When you refresh your page 10 times you'll see Chitika only once. It's the 10% your referrer gets out of Wizzley's impression share. I assume your referrer is Jo.

Then I see 2 or 3 impressions with AdSense, and then a bunch of blank ones until Chitika comes on again. I'm not sure about the blank ones, though. We haven't disabled ads on your page.

Sorry Chef, was that aimed at me or Steve?

If me, which page, please? I'll need to take a look at this.

Thanks.

Ah yes, now I see. I think Google has blanked it all on their own because I, shock, mention nudity.

Does my writing might attract the ire of Google Paula? If it does it matters not to me. I'm not going to have some overly sensitive, politically correct, conservative algorithm dictating what I can and cannot write; only the bigoted and narrow-minded might take offense to anything that comes off my keyboard.

With the income from AdSense at such risible levels it's not as if the Google gods have some sort of club to beat me with - sorry, with which to beat me. I write because that's what I do. I enjoy writing. If I can inform and occasionally amuse in the process I'm a happy person. If the AdSense money buys a glass of beer from time-to-time so much the better.

The downside that I see is that Wizzley, which provides the platform for me to self-indulgently have fun, doesn't earn much from my efforts. Sorry Chef.

My idea exactly, Rupert, and no slight on your skills intended.

Except that I would rather the Google gods didn't have their say over whether they feel able to provide advertisements around what I write. Hence why I have moved to Chitika while continuing to use Amazon, where I control the input of which ads are shown.

Money ain't everything, Rupert. I enjoy your articles. No apology necessary, at all.

Following her instructions from yesterday, I "don't mind" Paula for a few days.  Laughing

So you "won't mind" if I send you a cyber hug then?

Have you been earning from Chitika. I ask because Google ads are getting worse to the point that so far this month I have had more hits than any other month here and so far I haven't earned a penny off Google.

Too early to tell Steve. Anyway, I probably don't have enough content here as yet to make a big dent. I need more time to write and less spent chasing people around the globe for money they won't pay us unless I produce paperwork requiring them to do so...

That aside, I don't like the Google gods' attitude to telling you and me here in the UK, not to mention Rupert in Canada, what we can write about. We write for a specific market in some cases, which is TOTALLY different to a US one. Google, however, refuses to recognise that the Pound and the Euro are valid currency as well as the Almighty Dollar. They also think that everyone is as conservative as the most conservative American, which we are not. The Naked Rambler would Not Be Permitted in the States; he would have been at best committed to a long term prison sentence for offensive behavior and at least committed to a long term course of normalising mental-treatment drugs. Ritalin, anyone?

Many UK firms (and I work for one) trade in all three currencies (GBP, EUR and USD) having a presence in all three territories and beyond. One of our biggest grossing markets is China, where they pay in a mixture of GBP and USD depending on which currency their internal markets say is better at the time.

I have always maintained, from the start of my days at that other place where we both used to write about motorsport, that I write articles for rev share because I have to, not to earn money. If I want to earn money from my work, I take clients and write to their requirements. Sure, occasionally I hit the sweet spot with rev share, as I did before Panda came through, but generally, my articles on places, people, things and themes are because I have to get the ideas out of my head or I'll go mad. People like Achim appreciate that, and reward me with goodies including Editor's Choice Awards, cyber hugs and personal emails/messages. That keeps me happy and keeps me writing here. My clients pay for life's luxuries. My dayjob pays the bills. Google is a search engine whose leaders have divine delusions. One of several such tech firms which seek to take over the world.
