You ask - we listen. That's a given.
Then we do research and think. (Ouch.)
In the cases of changing the color of the "Like" button (when you've already "liked" the page) and changing "Become a Fan" to "You're already a Fan of so-and-so", we've decided that adding those scripts would contribute to a...um..."monster-like" slow-down of Wizzley's loading speed.
Unfortunately, every little script adds up to the loading load. (I just wanted to write "loading load". Don't ask,)
Can we do without these fairly minor conveniences?

I agree. Keeping it simple makes it fast. Fast = good. So let's stick with simple.

A key point here too is that Google takes into account "load speed" when displaying search results. All things being equal, slow loading sites will appear lower in search results.

Does that mean we should limit our photos and videos? I'm trying to decide which site to use to write up my articles on art inspired by our Festival of the Arts this weekend. I was going to use Wizzley, but these articles may require more original photos than most.

What we were referring to in this discussion is the fact that putting more and more programming steps and loops into a site will slow the site down and impact speed load (and hence Google's evaluation) - so we were talking at a site level.
If you incorporate images and videos in any article on any site it will slow the load for that article - you have probably experienced this with Squidoo lenses with lots of images like one of mine which has multiple rainforest images.
So the more images/videos you put in an article on any site, the slower the load will be relevant to loading other articles from that site.
You are very welcome to write up the exhibition with images/video. Our main condition is that you have copyright to the images/video or approval to use them (via license/creative commons, etc).

What I did not say clearly enough, Barbara, is that we would welcome your articles about the Festival of Arts - a great topic with a wide audience. Ron P.

Load speed is one of my biggest frustrations with some sites. I would say let's keep that as fast as possible.

Ron, I take almost all my own pictures and most of the videos I use I make myself. I'm assuming we can, though, use any public video on YouTube. Is there some particular place for giving credit or link back to a creative commons or other domain? Is that what we use the image URL for?

Simon sayz, within an hour or so we will have a special space in our image module for attributions. Can't wait to see what he's cooked up again, that old Krautwickle.

Chef, it will take me awhile to start adding pages, but I want to thank you right off the bat for one:. Having the fan club feature, which I really consider the Friends list, and two: having the little announcement at the top that someone has just become a fan. I also love the clean look of the pages. Two thumbs up and I wish I could borrow more! ;)

Fast is better and we can live without the acknowledgement of already being a friend, but ... Krautwickle?
