If you dream of traveling to the tropics, French Polynesian Islands is the perfect getaway, vacation or honeymoon spot.

Most of us are familiar with Tahiti. Yet, if someone asked a non-traveler, where French Polynesia is, they might scratch their head. Actually, French Polynesia is a group of islands, including Tahiti. Another known French Polynesian Island is Bora Bora. Although there are six groups of islands, there is over 100 individual islands which make up French Polynesia.

Moorea Islands

One of the popular islands is the Moorea Islands. Moorea Islands are a favorite among honeymooners. Although Tahiti is the favorite for tourists, Moorea Island follows in second place. These islands are surrounded by Cook's Bay and Opunohu Bay. Opunohu Bay is certainly familiar to movie buffs. "The Bounty" was filmed on Opunohu Bay, and of course with the history of Captain Cook anchoring here in the 1700's.

Moorea Island is perfect for those who love the water. Beach lovers are certainly familiar with the white, or golden sandy beaches that are found all over the world. Moorea has not only white sandy beaches, but black sandy beaches as well. volcanoes are common in the tropics. When active, and the lava flows into the cold, bay water, the lava shatters, and is washed upon the shore creating the black sandy beaches.

Activities

There are plenty of tours throughout the islands that are filled with a variety of activities including Polynesian picnics on the motus. You can enjoy a bit of line fishing, a trip on a catamaran, as well as other sight-seeing tours, and see the natural wonders. Of course, for a getaway, there are plenty of secluded beach areas to go for some quiet time and relaxation.

The water activities include: scuba diving, snorkeling, various forms of Jet skiing, kite surfing, and of course fishing and swimming. Scuba divers and snorkelers love this area. The waters are full or beautiful coral, and a variety of marine life. For those who truly love adventure, as well as to be daring, you can take classes, and then participate in actual shark feeding, while accompanied by the professional shark feeders.

Accommodations

The accommodations vary from thatched roofs bungalows on the beach, to resorts complete with all of the amenities. The South Pacific Islands are perfect spots for families, as well as for those romantic getaways. Transportation to other areas can be arranged. Tahiti, being a popular, more crowded spot for tourists, is less than 10 miles away from Moorea.

A perfect gift, for family, anniversary or even wedding gift, would be a a getaway to the French Polynesian Islands.
