Games Like Heavy Rain - Other Drama Adventures

If you're on the hunt for games like Heavy Rain because you liked the noir film like feel of the game then I can't recommend L.A. Noire enough. It takes the game to a slightly more crime based adventure and was produced by Rockstar Games (so you know it's a great experience).

It's also available on a range of platforms so if you don't own a PlayStation 3 and can't get into Heavy Rain then L.A. Noire is the next best thing. In the game you're tasked with investigating all sorts of crimes and it's got the depth of real life with leads, suspect integration and a reactive storyline that changes based on your success.

Set during the peak of crime detectives in 1940 and 1950 it's an experience that will be particularly enjoyed if you're a fan of the old crime movies.

The realism of the game will really blow you away with extremely realistic facial expressions being an important element in the interrogations particularly with actors recorded from dozens of angles to get the right expressions.

Deadly Premonition is one of those games like Heavy Rain that promises to mess with your heard in all sorts of ways. It's got plenty of crime based themes but is also very mysterious and even borderlines psychological horror game. While it originally launched on consoles these days the game is also available on Windows through Steam.

Strangely enough the game has received polarising reviews either scoring really well or poorly with reviewers. I can understand why the game isn't perfect by any means and you have to look past it's issues to enjoy the experience. If you can't turn a blind eye to the minor glitch you probably won't enjoy it if I'm being completely honest.

It's packed with features that make it a great game from the non linear story that lets you explore the open world as you want to the comedy that is spread throughout the game to help you come to terms with what is going on around you. 

Gameplay centres around the small town of Greenvale and has plenty of activities to engage in when you aren't following the main story and it's series of events. You'll play as Agent York in a third person perspective with inventory management, dialogue, driving and weapons all playing an important role. You also have to manage your mental state with sleep and food which gives an extra realistic feel to this adventure.

Fahrenheit (or Indigo Prophecy if you call North America home) is another of the dark and twisted games like Heavy Rain that I've featured here (you would think I had problems with all the strange games I recommend). The game  is set in New York City mostly as you take it upon yourself to solve a string of strange murders where people were possessed before committing murder.

You aren't just a good Samaritan though you're doing it to clear your own name after becoming tied into these weird possession murders. As you attempt to solve the mystery you'll encounter all sorts of weird supernatural events. Just like other games that I've listed here some elements of the game have been motion captured to make it all feel more realistic. This realism is expanded further with a large focus on looking after your mental health as you progress onwards. In a similar way to Deadly Premonition you will regain your sanity by doing normal tasks like sleeping, bathing, eating and everything else.

While you take a back seat for most of the game and choose simple decisions trees to follow there are certain sequences where you'll have to press buttons in the correct series or with timing to keep you interested.

It's an older game like Heavy Rain that won't suit everyone but I had so much fun with it I couldn't not recommend it.
