Homemade bread and breadmakers

by eleni

Enjoy the unique taste and smell of homemade bread without all the mess of kneading and baking, with a breadmaker!

Why would you need a breadmaker? you might ask. Well... to make bread obviously...But why would you want the hassle of making your own bread rather than buying it? you might ask again.
Well, for one thing, good bread is not always readily found nowadays. Most corner shops or supermarkets sell a spongy, tasteless, industrial kind of bread and good bread sold in many high end bakeries can be quite expensive. Also, you or another family member may be on a gluten-free diet and finding good, affordable gluten free bread may a problem.

Homemade bread with a breadmaker

There is nothing comparable to the taste of homemade bread and the smell of baking wafting through the house is simply irresisitible. Not to mention that homemade bread is healthier and cheaper. Few of us however can afford the time and effort to make our own bread on top of our already very busy daily schedules. But here is where the breadmaker comes in!

These amazing kitchen appliances which are constantly gaining in popularity will mix, knead, let rise and bake bread all in one, and even keep it warm for you untli you are ready to eat it! The only thing left for you to do is provide the ingredients and enjoy the results!

Many breadmakers even have a delay timer feature, enabling you to program them before you leave for work in the morning or just before you go to bed at night and enjoying a freshly baked loaf of bread for your breakfast or dinner...or both! Bread making cannot possibly get any easier than this!

A breadmaker takes away all the mess and hassle of bread making, and even the time and money needed to go out and buy bread, just leaving you with the fun of experimenting with new bread recipes and ingredients and enjoying healthy quality bread daily, the easy way.

Homemade bread recipes for breadmakers

There are many bread recipes for breadmakers which you can buy or find online. Also, if you happen to have any old favorite bread recipes in your family, it is usually quite easy to convert them for use with a breadmaker. Usually, you only need to adjust the quantities and select the appropriate breadmaker settings. This is what I have done with the recipes passed on to me by my grandmother, who used to make the best bread I have ever eaten! Here is her special recipe for multigrain bread, which I have converted for a breadmaker.

Multigrain bread recipe for breadmaker

Ingredients

2tbs pearled barley

1 tbs poppy seeds

1 tbs sesame seeds

2 tbs flaxseed

1 tbs millet

2 tbs shelled sunflower seeds

2 tbs shelled pumpkin seeds

2 tbs chopped walnuts

1 cup oat flakes

2 tbs olive oil

2 tbs honey

1 tbs salt

1 packet dry yeast

500 gr wholewheat flour

3 cups water

Instructions

Let the barley soak in the water for approximately 20 minutes. Then add the poppyseeds, flaxseed, and millet and leave for an additional 5 minutes.

Pour the water/seed mix in the breadmaker's bread pan. Add the walniuts and oats, olive oil and honey. Add the flour and salt. Make a small hole in the top and add the yeast.

Program the breadmaker to "wholewheat".

When the breadmaker lets you know you may add extra ingredients (usually by beeping), add the sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds and let the breadmaker complete its cycle.
