Drinks to make with vodka - Overview

Simple Vodka Drinks

Cocktails are always a popular choice among party goers.  There are a large number of drinks to make with vodka and most of them are simple. Let’s look at some of the more popular ones below. They are sure to be a hit at your next party. Make sure you have plenty of ice on hand along with the following 'tools of the trade'.

Things You’ll Need To Make Cocktails

Four things that will ensure you make good Vodka drinks
  1. The best way to mix cocktails is with a cocktail shaker.  But be sure to get a good quality product for durability, and because you don’t want it to leak its contents and spill half the drink all over your floor while you are in the process of shaking it all up. Some of the cheaper models are getting a reputation for being substandard. Besides you want to look like a professional when mixing drinks for your friends.
  2. The other most important thing you will need is cocktail glasses to serve your magnificent creations. Again, good quality ones will not only show off your drinks to the best advantage but will also probably last a lot longer than the flimsy cheap variety. For heavens sake please do not serve cocktails in plastic, that is just simply awful!
  3. An accurate measuring device to make sure your drinks are made to the exactly the right recipe.
  4. Although it is not essential, I like to use swizzle sticks when making Vodka drinks. I think it adds a little more color and finnese to the finished product.

Drinks Made With Vodka

4 Popular Bartender Recipes

Kamikazi

One of the most well known drinks made with vodka is called the Kamikazi. It consists of the following ingredients.

1 oz Vodka, which can be any brand you like

1/2 oz Triple Sec, which is an orange flavoured Curacao Liqueur

1/2 oz Lime juice, fresh is best

Place all the ingredients into your cocktail shaker with ice and shake well for a minute or two. Then strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a small piece of lime wedge.

The Kamikazi is so called because it has the ability to do a lot of damage. So be careful as it may sneak up behind you and smack you in the back of the head, so to speak.

Cosmopolitan

Another drink to make with Vodka is the popular Cosmopolitan which includes the following:

1 oz vodka – your favourite brand or whatever you have in the house

1/2 oz triple sec – that’s the orange liqueur mentioned above in the Kamikazi recipe

1/2 oz lime juice – fresh juice for maximum flavor

1/2 oz cranberry juice – unless you have access to fresh cranberries and a fruit press, the supermarket variety will do just fine.

Get all your ingredients into your cocktail shaker with a good handful of cracked ice and give it a good ol shake for a minute or two to get it well chilled. Strain it into a cocktail glass and serve immediately.

Gilligan’s Island
The Giligan’s Island drink is another made with Vodka and is quite a trendy cocktail:

These are the ingredient you will need.

1 oz vodka – by now you will have a favorite

1 oz peach schnapps – an American liqueur flavoured with fruit

3 oz orange juice – fresh is definitely best but store bought is still fine

3 oz cranberry juice – store bought is fine

Place all of the ingredients into your trusty cocktail shaker with a good handful of ice and shake it all together vigorously for a couple of minutes until it is well chilled. Then of course you know what comes next because by now you will be well skilled at pouring your magnificent cocktails into their glasses.

Apple Martini

Lucky last, and a very 'James Bond' kind of Vodka drink which is fresh and crisp on the palate: Apple Martini. For this one you will need:

1 oz vodka – choose from Absolut, Smirnoff, Grey Goose, Cyrstal Head or any other brand is fine.

1 oz Sour Apple Pucker schnapps – American schnapps which is Apple flavoured

Mix the ingredients together in the shaker with lots of ice to get it well chilled and shake well for a minute or two.

Are There Any Carbs In Vodka?

Vodka, whiskey, and tequila are hard liquors which are produced by the process of distilling. Therefore they have no carbs.  *But you should keep in mind that because these drinks have a high alcohol content, they also have a high calorie count, and this can result in a person gaining weight by drinking Vodka or other distilled drinks on a regular basis. Be aware that the higher the ‘proof’ of Vodka, the more calories it will contain.

Types of Vodka

There are many different types of Vodka including clear, flavoured, premium, French, Russian, and the ever popular Skyy American Vodka.
