I have been writing what I called “Reflections” for several years. Many were published here on Medium while others are adapted from different writings or were just newly created. Now I have put these articles together into a book, entitled “My Reflections on Life and Other Important Matters.” And my amazing husband designed a great cover for them!

I Published “My Reflections”

A book of essays entitled "My Reflections on Life and Other Important Matters"
This book is rather ambitiously titled “My Reflections on Life and Other Important Matters,” which seems to imply that I have valuable insights into these “important matters.” I have to admit that when I looked at the list of these little articles I wondered if I should have chosen a less weighty title.
However, many of the topics included here are certainly important. And even if my reflections are not as deep or weighty in their content as the title deserves, perhaps they will serve to stimulate the reader to reflect on these topics. That would surely be a good thing.
These essays are not deep philosophical or theological treatises, so the reader can enjoy them without having to resort to dictionaries or maybe an AI assistant to explain the concepts. There is even an element of fun contained in many of the pieces. At least I hope so!
The articles range from issues of ultimate concern, about God, the meaning of life, and so on, to what could be considered rather mundane, like drinking tea, with a variety of topics in between.
Of course, drinking tea isn’t actually mundane or an insignificant part of life; it’s really very important! I have written about how it is the drink for all occasions as well as several varieties that go far beyond your basic yet most essential black tea, that staple of British life.
There really is always "Time for Tea."
My writing style in these pieces tends towards the humorous. Perhaps this reflects my need to balance the seriousness of the topics with something lighter. Or perhaps it merely reflects my British sense of humor, ironic and understated, with a tendency to expect the worst and to laugh about it.
Having lived in America for decades, I have also developed more optimism and hope. Even so, it is always colored by a need to be realistic, and to find comfort in simple, everyday things, like the quintessentially British cup of tea!
It is my hope and purpose in publishing these pieces that they will inspire and entertain many readers. They cover a variety of topics, so pick and choose, and enjoy! And, of course, a second volume is probably forthcoming, so the last words are not the end.
The world is surely in need of hope, and constructive action. Without any claim to solve the world’s problems, this collection nonetheless contains ideas and thoughts that hopefully will advance people’s thinking in a positive direction.
