Julie & Julia - From Blog to Movie

by candy47

It's every bloggers dream for their blog to be published in book form then get a Hollywood movie deal...

Based on a true story, the movie Julie & Julia chronicles the blog of New Yorker Julie Powell and intertwines that with the real life of Julia Child. Ms. Powell promised in her blog 'The Julie/Julia Project' to prepare all 524 recipes in Julia Child's book, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, in 365 days.

As Ms. Powell's blog grew in popularity, it drew the attention of a book publisher and a deal was signed. Shortly thereafter a movie followed.

Written and directed by Nora Ephron, this was the first major motion picture based on a blog. So all you bloggers out there, start posting! There might be a movie deal in your future too.

The Main Players

Julia Child is played by Meryl Streep, superbly as always. Julie Powell played by Amy Adams, well done, Paul Child (Julia's husband) is portrayed by Stanley Tucci and Eric Powell (Julie's husband) played by Chris Messina.

This is the official trailer distributed by Sony Pictures, it'll give you just enough to grab your interest.

My Opinion

I enjoyed the movie. There were only a few sub-plots – marriage discord, career insecurities and business discrimination but none of the sub-plots were overpowering or tedious, they were brief and gave a sense of vulnerability to two women determined to reach a goal.

If you watch this movie, and I suggest you do, try to remember that Meryl Streep isn't really Julia Child...she does that good a job!

Julia Child said that if something tastes so good but you just can't identify what the taste is, it's butter. I agree Julia!
