by Charlotte

Life Quest is a strategy game that virtual villagers, gemini lost fans will thoroughly enjoy, especially for it's uncanny resemblance to reality.

Does your life resemble the rat race? Life Quest was one of those cute and cool games that reminded me of my life, and how I needed to make some changes.

In Life Quest, your goal is to become successful in life - where you attain career and family success. You need to attend classes, find a job, eat, make time for sleep and leisure... all these are important decisions that you need to make each day as you navigate your character through the game. In Life Quest, you will meet different characters who are your friends and rivals, and both of you will compete to see who can reach a particular goal faster.

Life Quest requires a delicate balance of work and play, as each decision that I made impacted some facet of my life. If I worked, my happiness meter dropped and if I skipped a meal, the next day I would be short of time to get all the work done... Indeed, Life Quest was a micro reflection of my daily life, where I had limited time to achieve all my goals.

One of the cool things about Life Quest was that it was a very cool reflection of reality. You had to go to college, pay rent, buy furniture, clothes, pets, sleep, eat, find a life partner, apply for jobs, compete with other friends, decide what kind of classes to take..... which would impact the kind of job you'd be eligible for....

It made me realize how my life was full of work and had hardly any element of play in it, as when I first began playing, my instinct was to work my character so hard - and she would forgo her meals and play... it all revolved around taking classes and going to work. Then I learned that this was not a great strategy at all, especially in the long term. The amount of happiness and time efficiency that I lost in the next few days were more damaging that productive.

If you love simulation and strategy games like Virtual Villagers, Gemini Lost, Farm Tribe... I highly recommend Life Quest. Besides being an enjoyable game, with lovely graphics and music, it mirrors real life in an uncanny way that points out some of the bad habits we might have. The only downside to it was that I managed to end the game rather quickly - although this meant that I could replay the game as very different characters each time I started over.
