Hiring out DVDs was very popular, and at one time most towns had a DVD rental shop. A couple of years ago new DVD rental companies started up that allow you to rent DVDs directly from their website. The DVDs are sent directly to your door via the postal service. There is no extra charge for postage and no late fees. No more going to the shop and no worries about getting the DVD back on time.
LoveFilm.Com is one of these services. I have had an account with them for about two and a half years. I pay one small monthly fee which allows me to have up to 2 DVDs out at a time. I usually manage to watch 4-5 DVDs a week and pay £9.99 a month for this service, which I think is great value. Plus I get access to nearly 7,000 movies that I can stream direct to my TV via the internet. LoveFilm's turnover for getting DVDs sent to me is very quick. It usually takes about 48 hours from posting a DVD back to them, to getting another one delivered to my home. Of course, this does depend on the postal service.
For an additional fee you can also rent games from LoveFilm for a number of different platforms.

This is a very interesting article making me think about the old fashioned cable providers. There's the current generation of cable never getters and those before them who are quickly becoming cable cutters and with that comes the question is the cable company a dinosaur soon to reach extinction? Seems like only yesterday the brick and mortar movie rentals where all the rage. This is a fast paced industry. I love movies. Thanks for the 411 on instant film access.
