Review of the new Lowepro Transit Sling 250AW camera bag system

Lowepro is a name that nearly every photographer knows instantly as a camera bag company. While there are plenty of other brands out there, Lowepro is synonymous with keeping your gear safe. The new Transit Sling 250AW is no exception. Designed to keep you moving, and not digging in your bag, the Transit Sling 250 will let you move and shoot without risking your gear falling out on the pavement.

Transit Sling 250 Overview

The Transit Sling 250 is part of Lowepro's new Transit line and is designed with urban photographers in mind.  Sturdy, compact, discreet, and secure, this bag takes on the city without fear.

A simple slate gray with a tiny flash of bold red detailing and well thought out silhouette prevents this bag from screaming "CAMERA INSIDE!  COME STEAL ME!" like far too many camera bags on the market tend to do.  Even the Lowepro logo is a muted grey so as not to attract undue attention on this bag.

As the name implies, this bag is worn sling style, that is across the body for added security.  Granted, cross body carry is not for everyone and there is no other good way to carry this bag so if you don't like cross body you'll need to look to this bag's big brother, the Lowepro Transit Backpack 350AW.

The bag is reasonably padded and construction is solid as you would expect from Lowepro.  Zippers stay zipped and are not flimsy so you can trust them to stay shut.  The included rain cover is securely tucked away but ensures quick access when you need to keep the bag, and its contents, dry.

There is a lot of gear that fits inside this bag for its size.  In addition to letting you carry plenty of gear with you, the compact design means it can fit well on your back and shouldn't wiggle around. Also, the tripod holder includes a small pull out bottom rest for the tripod so it stays put!  This helps with fatigue a lot.

Staying true to a sling bag, you can easily slide the bag around for quick side access to your camera for those sudden photo opportunities.  However, the internal structure of the bag is flexible enough that you can rearrange the bag to best fit your needs.

What missed the mark

Nothing in this world is perfect and this bag is no exception.  However, there isn't much that missed the mark with the Transit Sling 250.

The tablet compartment is my biggest concern for this bag.  The compartment is very tight and it will fit the tablet but not with an additional case on the tablet.  Now, this would be fine except with the tablet sandwiched between my camera gear and my back I'd really like to see more padding in the tablet compartment and a softer material.

Cross body carry only is my other gripe for this bag.  I'm a huge fan of flexibility and while the curved strap makes cross body carry work really well, there really isn't a way to carry this bag on one shoulder for even a few minutes.  However, Lowepro does offer the Transit Backpack so that is there for folks who like carry options.
