Luxurious Handmade Chocolate Soap

by Digby_Adams

Any passionate chocolate lover will enjoy a bar of chocolate soap. You won't believe how many kinds there are to choose from.

I love handmade soap made in small batches in the homes of soap makers who are passionate about their craft. Whenever I travel I always visit small gift shops hoping that there is a local soap maker's product to try. For years I found olive oil soap, glycerine soap, oatmeal soap, perhaps even goat milk soap. But a few years ago, I noticed a small trickle of a trend which has lately become a torrent - chocolate soap. Artisan soap makers have taken their favorite organic or natural soaps and scented them with chocolate. A few of taken chocolate or cocoa and made it a larger ingredient. The latter soap makers are aware of the health benefits of chocolate.

You'll also find me at local craft shows looking for the homemade soap. I love to meet the soap maker and discuss their recipes. That's partly because I like meeting this kind of people and partly because I really want to know what goes into the soap. You say chocolate soap? Well just how much chocolate is in this soap. Is it just fragrance or is their real cocoa powder. There's a big difference in the health benefits. But you know, I can eat dark chocolate and get the health benefits. I don't need to bathe in it for those. Mostly I just love the way the scent of chocolate makes me feel.

Guys if you're wondering what to get your wife or girlfriend for Valentines Day or for a special Christmas stocking stuffer, get her a bar of handmade chocolate soap. Tip - that shouldn't be the only thing you get her. But a box of gourmet chocolates and a bar of handcrafted luxury soap is fine. My huge family celebrates Christmas together and I'm often the person in charge of stocking stuffers. Handmade soap is always popular. I make sure everyone gets a different kind. The women in my family can spend hours sniffing each one.

Chocolate and mint is one of my favorite combinations. Junior Mints and Yorkshire Peppermint Patties aren't allowed in the house, because I can't stop eating them. It's embarrassing that a woman nearing 30 doesn't have any more self control than that. But I can have homemade chocolate soap with mint scent. I can leave the bathtub or shower within a reasonable amount of time.

I love the way that the soap makers have made many of these chocolate soaps look like chocolate desserts, candies and truffles. It makes them perfect for gift giving. I never seen a woman get one of these and not be amazed by it. She'll turn it and sniff it, just to make sure that it's not the real thing. There isn't always a craft fair for me to visit to find the latest chocolate soap bar. So I now haunt eBay as well. The sellers there have always responded to my questions. They are often the same folks who sell homemade soap at craft fairs.

The great thing about these luxury soaps is that the mint doesn't lose it's aromatherapy properties, when its combined with chocolate. So it's the perfect wake-up and get on with your day soap. It will waken your senses and help sharpen your thoughts.

Some of our local soap makers have started adding chocolate to their soaps, too. (I wonder how many people have "mistakenly" taken a bite?) It smells great, though, and if you are on a diet, you could get your chocolate fix in a calorie-free way.

Chocolate soap smells wonderful. Some soap makers add cinnamon and other spices.

Quite a few people in my area of New Hampshire make their own soap. I've never bought it - I should! I have never heard of chocolate soap.
