Sand globes are sunny variants of snow globes: Snow globes exist in many variations, from hand-held and water-filled to giant airy domes.

Fun with globes: from winter wonderland of snow globes to sunny paradise of sand globes

 

Water-filled snow globes enclose miniaturized scenes which transform into wonderlands with falling, sparkling particles simply by shaking or tipping. Lacking water, their sunny equivalents appear as beach vignettes with sand filling the bottom sector of the sphere. Tipping sand globes shifts the sand and rearranges the miniatures.

A plethora of themes are depicted in sand globes. Beach landscapes are excellent settings for pets, who enjoy sea and sand environments just as much as their human families.

Golden Retrievers: hearts of gold

Golden Retrievers belong to the sporting group of dogs, a group focused on assisting in hunts for birds and small game.

The friendly, intelligent breed was developed in the late nineteenth century near Glen Affric at Guisachan, the Scottish Highlands estate of Dudley Marjoribanks, 1st Baron Tweedmouth (December 29, 1820 – March 4, 1894). The Golden Retriever’s parentage includes Belle, a Tweed Water Spaniel, a breed which became extinct before the twentieth century.

The phenomenal patience and sociability of Golden Retrievers especially qualifies them as:

  • guide dogs;

Black Labs: best friends forever

Black Labrador Retrievers, affectionately known as Black Labs, comprise one of a trio of Labrador Retrievers which are distinguished by and named for their coloring:

  • black;
  • chocolate;
  • yellow.

Labrador Retrievers trace their origins to the Avalon Peninsula of southeastern Newfoundland. They are descended from St. John’s water dog, a breed which became extinct in the 1980s. Their retrieving skills were honed as assistants to fishermen of the Labrador Sea.

Loyal and playful as family dogs, their athleticism and their stable temperament eminently qualify them as:

  • guide dogs;

This talented breed is especially dear to me, for one of my great childhood pals, Clinker, my paternal uncle's pet, was a Black Lab.

Yellow Labs: sunny friends

Yellow Labrador Retrievers are affectionately known as Yellow Labs.

This breed exhibits the sunny disposition which characterizes all three color representatives:

  • black;
  • chocolate;
  • yellow.

The sleekness of Black Labs is expressed as sunshine in the coat of Yellow Labs and as rich earthiness in Chocolate Labs.

A Yellow Lab, leaping and running as joyful participant in family games, is a glorious sight, especially with sunlight dancing off that sunny coat.

Pugs: heart-warmers

Although Pugs have the honor of being recognized as one of the oldest known breeds today – dating back to before 400 BCE – their origins are uncertain. Descent is variously attributed to:

  • Bulldog;
  • French Mastiff (Dogue de Bordeaux);
  • Short Haired Pekingese.

Pugs have a proclivity for snoring and easily catch colds.

Their animated, happy-go-lucky disposition adds to their charm. They soften hearts with their dark, large eyes and deeply wrinkled faces.

Rottweilers: natural clowns and extraordinary ambassadors

 

Affectionately known as Rotts or Rotties, Rottweilers are one of the oldest herding breeds, with their history dating back to Roman Empire (27 BCE – 476 AD). Traditionally, Rotties have excelled at herding livestock and pulling as well as guarding carts of butchered meat.

The clownish playfulness which Rotties exhibit as pets in family life derives from confidence and security. Unfortunately, a Hyde-like flip of their territorial and watchdog instincts into super-aggressiveness may occur as a result of:

  • lack of socialization through abuse and/or neglect;
  • lack of training.

The American Kennel Club recognizes the breed as greatly alert, with a self-confident aloofness, and a strong eagerness for work.

  • Rottweilers exude calm, confident courage, which endears them as companions and guardians.

For me, happy, well-trained Rottweilers are extraordinary ambassadors for canine-human camaraderie. The outer glow from inner confidence is impressive and unmistakable.

Yorkshire Terriers: impossibly adorable, completely disarming

North East England’s county of Yorkshire is the namesake of Yorkshire Terriers, known affectionately as Yorkies. The petite breed is believed to have been developed in the mid-nineteenth century by ordinary people, mostly mill workers, as rat catchers.

The signature glossiness and silkiness of Yorkie’s long hair tempts their owners to indulge in prettifications such as beribboned top knots.

Yorkies are renowned as attentive, inquisitive, easily trainable pets. Happy Yorkies display exquisitely perfect carriage and exude alert confidence.

For me, Yorkies are unequalled for alert adorability. Their perky, pert manner is refreshing and also disarming.

Telesto, Me, too, I'm seeing that problems in dogs have to do with training and treatment. By nature dogs seem to want to be helpful and to spread joy.
