Product Description: Pre-packaged instant mashed potatoes from the Betty Crocker brand, advertising real potatoes and roasted garlic. We purchased this product about a month ago when it was on sale at one of our local grocery stores. My wife prepared them on the stove last night as a side dish for the steak dinner she was making.

Yesterday was my birthday and, since we didn't really have time to do anything to celebrate (too much stuff going on and it was a school night), my wife tried to partially make up for it by making a home-cooked steak dinner for me. When she did, she decided to use a package of the Betty Crocker Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes we had in our pantry.
My wife and I purchased this product a few weeks ago because it sounded like it would be good. I'm, admittedly, not a big fan of instant potatoes. But, after a recent pleasant experience with some, I have been much more open to trying them. Unfortunately, this brand did prove to be somewhat of a disappointment for me.
One of the first things I noticed about this product was the quantity. The package promised enough for several servings. But, those servings would have had to be a much smaller size than most other brands. This did make me immediately question whether or not we got our money's worth this this product.
The biggest disappointment for me, however, had to be the taste. I won't say they were bad. But, they weren't anything special either. Let's just say the packaging oversells what is essentially an average product. The potatoes tasted like they were instant potatoes and the garlic taste, while there, wasn't as noticeable as I would have expected it to be. In fact, had I not seen the package, I'm not sure I would have known there was garlic in them.
I also apparently wasn't the only one who felt this way. My oldest daughter will normally eat two or three servings of mashed potatoes by herself. Yet, when she had these, she didn't even finish one serving of them. I finished my first serving but had no interest in having seconds. So, in hindsight, the smaller quantity didn't make much of a difference.

Final Opinion
Again, they are OK potatoes. But, just OK. There's really nothing about them that stood out when we were having these last night and I can think of a couple other, cheaper, brands that would be better choices.

StevenHelmer, Thank you for product lines, pretty pictures and practical information.
What a disappointment it is to find attractive packaging contains not much in the way of ingredients, servings and taste!
The product initially interested me because of the reputation of Betty Crocker and because of its relevance to potato dishes -- from fellow Wizzleyite Veronica -- that I'll be preparing next month, the month after, the next month after... .
But how was the steak?
